Homemade CAI mod

In the MOD FAQ, there's a bunch of info on how to mod your stock intake by re-routing with some vaccum hose. Unfortunately, none of the pictures are working so I can see how/what he did. Has anyone else done this? I'm eager to give it a whirl.

ive heard of people cutting a hole in the fender well and sticking the hose there. Ive got mine going straight down from where the resonator box used to be and coming out the bottom right behind the plastic covering that goes under the radiator.

that is the perfect way to scope up some water and dirt into your engine.

yea its pretty homemade lol. sorry i dont have any pics. basically i just took off the little C shaped piece that goes from the intake snorkel to the resonator box, then took some hose and clamped it to that opening and let the hose hang straight down. If you look straight down into the engine bay you will see theres some hard plastic covering running parallel w/ the ground right under the radiator. My hose goes down to right where those end and is angled forward.

i thought about that but i dont think it would make it up the hose. ive checked the inside of the airbox after driving through wet conditions several times and never seen it wet.

maybe because all the water was already sucked up. the engine is a huge sucking force. do u at least have a screen on the end so rocks and other debri dont get into the hose? im assuming u still have the OEM-type filter in the resonator box as well

How do you avoid getting water in the engine with an actual brand name CAI. I just bought a place racing one and my friend has an injen one we installed yesterday.
We were thinking of rigging up some splash guard we can take on and off..althought seems like a hassle

How do you know if water gets in?
And how much damage does/can it do?

You won't buddy, if you are running stock setup, and your car is not under the water. I am talking about flooding area where water comes up to 3-8 inchs high. if you have Injen intake system you can suck up good amount of water.....
