PCV Valve - I am an Idiot....

So I decided to change out my PCV valve and air filter yesterday. The air filter was last changed 25k miles ago and I couldnt remember when the PCV valve was changed. The task of removing the old one was really easy but to put the new one was not. I removed the small rubber pipe to make things easier but while putting it back I accidently dropped it into the engine bay like an idiot. I couldnt locate it and I tried shaking the car etc to see if it would fall on the ground, but it never did.

So at that point I knew I was screwed as there is no tubing that connects the pcv valve to the air line. I didnt know what to do and had no ride to get to autozone so I removed the rubber from one of the battery (jump start) cables and put that in temporarily. I some how made it to autozone with the car sputtering somewhat at idle. The guy at autozone gave me piping but it was too big so I cut it. But like an idiot I cut it too short because it wouldnt bend and fit as easily as the original rubber pipe. So its all connected now but I suspect that it might leak out a small amount of air. The rpms at idle are fine now and I dont hear the air leak so I might be wrong one, just dont trust it.

I know I should have been more careful but **** happens. I now need to get the original piping and a grommet (sp) so can you guys tell me where I can get rubber pipe. I dont have time to go to junk yards so who wants to take it off of their maxima and give it to me.

You don't work or go to school 7 days a week. For the cost of what you need, go to the stealership and buy it!

a little off topic, but my meck once told me that you dont need to replace the pcv valve on our cars (or most japanese cars for that matter). all you need to do is clean it up really good with some throttle body cleaner spray and it should be good to go

I just replaced my PCV valve before going through emissions testing, despite the fact that a stealership said that they hadn't sold one for a Maxima in a year.

Take the thing out and shake it, if it doesn't rattle, replace it. My replacement PCV valve cost me Cdn$5 versus OEM Nissan Cdn$18. They cost peanuts.

Its just 3 bucks or so, for that price I would rather just replace it.

Why don't you just clean it with carb cleaner. Just like new. There is nothing to go bad, they just get dirty.
