Wow my max sounds like it has turbo

I know theres tons of exhaust threads and if this one is out of line go ahead and delete it. Just wondering if anyone else experienced a crazy whooshing/whinning/turboish sound coming from their intake after they put on a catback? I have a custom steel mesh k&n style intake. And a (don't flame I know I know) custom exhaust done by mieneke. 2.5 inch pipe. Eliminated the resonater but the y pipe is still stock. I don't know what kind of exhaust it is. It looks the same as the stock one (2 pipes inside eachother) only its like 2x bigger and nice and shiney . When I floor it once it reaches approx 3.5k rpms thats when this loud whinning turboish noise starts aside from the intake vrooming. Its very loud and everybody thinks I put a turbo on this weekend! Anyone else have this proble.. I mean luxury? haha.

I felt for leeks in the intake and don't feel any from the intake filter to the manifold. That's what I thought it was too. I got the steel mesh cone filter from advanced auto parts. its orange with steel mesh for the filter. Cost me like 32$ and I think it sounds 10x better then then weapon R filter. But I use the weapon R pipe to get rid of the resonator thingy that was connected to the intake.

Exhaust is making the noise, not your intake.

So it's considered a "luxury" when your car sounds like a turbo and it's actually not??

3.5 is about when the vq gets on the cam right? There is that shift in sound at approx 3.5 anyway. Could be you're sucking more air?? Or a leak, they will do that sometimes.

I watched the entire exhaust install and the 2 guys doing the exhaust checked it for leaks. They found 2 leaks in the welds and that was it they fixed them. Like I said the noise is deffinatly for sure not coming from the exhaust it is coming from the engine bay. I think it is the metal cone filter I have on the intake. It must be the way it is sucking more air and it's just the noise it makes going through the metal filter.

I want to get a sound clip of it. How would I go about doing that? Have someone record from outside the car as I pass or from inside the car? What should I use to record it? And where to host it?

after i put on a ws y pipe i found out there was a gap between the y and the gasket. once i hit 4000rpm it sounds like i had a turbo. replaced the gasket and everything back to normal.

okay if you are talking about the spooling sound is in the intake and it only happens at a certain point of throttle. full throttle you shouldn't hear it. It is just a whistling of air being sucked in at the right momnet. on 5speeds it is real easy to generate. auto are a little harder. you need an exhaust on an auto. a five speed can do it with just a filter and adapter plate. no intake. needed if that is what you mean. have on both of my maxes..

haha. Yea the kid is with his g/f in car and I slowed way down and he catches up and says,

Him-"Thats got a turbo right?"
Me-"No, its all stock."
Him-"But its got a turbo right?"
Me-"No dude, I don't have a turbo, supercharger, or any performance part.

He just looked at me for 15 seconds like he wasn't sure what to say, and then says again,

Him-"It's got to have a turbo."
Me-"Maybe you lost to my stock 4-door maxima because your graphics on your car are causing to much wind drag"

He rolled up his window and took off. I love embarrassing guys with their girlfriends in the car.
