Ditto. Great tire, but freakin' expensive.

 

I got the G35 rims and it came standard with those tires. I have to replace the rear tires cause they are 245-45-18 and when I finally do the rear drop am going to have issues. I checked and they wanr $238 each.. Damn tires...... as long as you stay away from RE92 Potenzas you wil be fine....

 

+1. Expensive yes, but worth every penny in my opinion.

Dont know where you live... but I live in New York and the Conti Extreme Contacts are a great tire and only about $120 a tire.

I put the Conti Extremes on the front of my wifes TL-S an they are almost cooked in less than 10,000miles plus they're stong point was rain traction and they were worse then the OEM Michilins which were rated on of the worst ever. Anyway if your on a budget I put Kuhmo Exctas kh11's size 225's on the front of my Max and they are definately good all around tire. Great trac dry or wet my only complaint might be flex when you really push on it, they feel sidewall soft. My 2 cents! I'm sure it'll get criticism but I feel like a season pass holder at TireRack and I've definately tried most of the popular tires and my all time fav's are Potenza's RE750's. Good luck with whatever you decide. I'll also say that since going up to the 225's on the front I really didn't notice a traction change good or bad and it wasn't for lack of trying. Looks nicer, Big wide meaty tire!

 

If people could follow the "Basic" freakin setup of this forum, I would not have to.

 

I wouldn't recommend the kumho kh11's if youre looking for an all-season tire...I've driven once in the snow with them and swear that I will never do it again.

 

avon techs m550 a/s i just bought them like a few weeks ago, wow i love them. my handeling has improved 5 times. i can take those exit ramps that say 15mph going like 45-50 without my car even feeling a bit like its leaning. they were a little expensive thought. but i still enjoy them very much.

 

That’s interesting, how’s steering feel?

How would you compare dry traction with stock potenzas, how fast could you take those ramps with Potenzas?

Toyo Proxes 4 for the best all-around all-season tire ( > Pilot A/S IMHO, and I've used both)...oh, and it costs ALOT less....

 

Get Yokohama Avid V4/s. They have a 500 treadwear and AA traction. I got mine from tirerack for 435 shipped. They are awsome. Before that i had Perelli P6000 and these Yokohamas are a huge improvement. There are quite at cruzing and have tons od traction

 

Falken ZE-512... cheap and good~

 

i have falken azenis st115's and they were 411 shipped. wonderful grip in dry and wet weather. substantially quiet than most performance tires out there, but don't you dare use these in snow! (i did since i installed them early spring and it felt like i was on slicks) sidewalls are stiff also... great for handling.

 

Just put a pair on the front one month ago. Like em so far. They're the all season ones. treadlife is rated much higher than most other max performance summer tires. Previously had Bridgestone s-03 pole position. Still have two on back. Those were incredible but very short lifespan for $200 a tire.

 

I got my 512s for $350 local for all 4.... kinda loud but I found them pretty grippy in the snow and wet. Sidewalls seem fine, but I keep em at minimum 36 psi all round. Good budget A/S tire IMO.

Gonna try out the Proxes when these are done....

 

I also have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I love the way they handle, BUT ....i find them VERY VERY noisy. I am thinking about replacing them just because of the noise issue.
Does anyone else had/have the same noisy experince with them???

AVON are very nice tires. They are HEAVY but if you don't care - buy them. They are nice, grippy, quiet, long lasting and affordable. Get the 550 since they are All season.
AVONs are wide and last long. They look very good too on stock rims. If they weren't so heavy, i would have still kept them on my car.

I had Toyo Proxes FZ4 previous to my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The Michelin's are a huge improvement in every category over the Toyo's. Road noise with the Michelin's is a whisper compared to the Toyo's. Wet traction is much improved too. Go with the Michelin's. You will not be disappointed.

 

I love my Avons too. I have the Avon Tech M500 tires, and they didn't seem especially heavy. Maybe the 550s are heavier than the 500s. If you need an all season tire, go for the 550s. The 500s are summer performance tires with fine wet and dry traction, but the 550s would probably be better for light slush and mud.

I've had the Avons on for 15k miles. The treadwear is very good, and they are MUCH quieter than my old Nitto NT450s. They also grip better and make me feel more confident on the road than the Nittos.

As an added bonus, the Avons are fairly in expensive.

Yup....I also installed some A/S Pilots to replace the Potenzas, found ride and noise to be completely unnaceptable & removed & sold them (less than 6k miles) and replaced with Turanza LS-Vs...one of the first on this board to do the Turanzas......love 'em.
Dry grip = Pilots
Wet grip almost = Pilots
Ride comfort and noise much better than Pilots

 

Nitto 455. smooth as glass and sticks like glue. Also great in rain........101.00 ea.

 

Pirelli PZero Nero M+S .....not a budget tire by any means, but is significently cheaper than Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Ive had mine for about 15K miles and have no regrets going with them. Paid $500 shipped for 4 (235/45/17). Best of luck with your decision. Also, it might help out a bit if you looked at the comparision chart and read reviews from Tirerack.com.

 

Really, Are they new model or are confusing them with Nitto 450? If so, then 450 suck in snow. They are great on dry, but wet and snow, forget it.

I'll throw my 2 cents in before it gets locked. Cooper Zeon ZX2 - 235/45/17s. Same ratings as the Proxies 4 but cost less. I love 'em.

 

I used 225/50R17 Hankook Ventus HR II in the past. They weigh under 24 lbs each, cost around $100 each and handle quite well in dry & wet conditions. Have not tried them in snow though they are supposed to be all-season...

I would not be so quick to blame the tire.... I have had my Conti's on for almost 10K already and they look great I could easily get another year and a half out of them. Thats also while slammed on D2's all summer long and I take "spirited" drives a couple times a week around back roads.

As far as rain.... I have driven 100+mph in the rain on them and my car was planted the whole time, not a hint of hydro.

What pressure did you run them at? if you underinflated them, you will cook them in no time as with any tire, and rain traction will be much worse as with any tire....

 

I was wondering the same things. I've never used the Nitto NT455s, but I had NT450s before I got my Avon Tech M500s (see my post comparing the two above). My NT450s were ok in dry weather, but they inspired very little confidence in wet conditions.

My Avon Tech M500s (summer performance tires) are solid in wet and dry conditions. If you need something good for light slush/mud, I'd suggest the Avon Tech M550s (all season performance).

 

Just as a note, the Proxes FZ4 was the low-rated tire that was replaced by the Proxes 4, WAAAAYYYY better....The Proxes 4 are extremely quiet...quietest UHP tire I've ever owned.

 

I keep them around 38psi. and its not that I can't or dont' do 100+ in the rain with them I just don't feel the confidence I have with other tires in the past especially running ramps and corners at speed. I'll blame my experiences on the fact that the TL-S may need a alignment and the fact that its not a Max!!!

How are the P4's in the snow?

 

BFG Traction T/As 235 45 R17 have been great in the snow and rain. With our cars and snow nothing is good. These are the best that I have found and reasonable. I think I got them for $136 each. Colorado ski county I get them where they need to go.
