Materials to put together 9007 lighting

Ok, I looked at the stickies, but couldnt find a simple list of items needed to put together my own harness? Any ways, right now I have the 9004 stock setup. Can someone please tell me what exactly do I need to go out and buy ? (not a kit) Everything that would get me from 9004 to working 9007 setup as well as lengths of wires and any helpful installation info you might have.
Thanks

um.. i dunno how to really tell you but. if you wanna go to cheapest way to do it. is to splice the wires going to the headlight their are 3 wires i forget the colors right now but cross 2 of them and use like a file to file off 2 of the 3 tabs.

You wanna go the more expensive way you can buy 9007 socket connectors and splice the whole thing into the new connector

Dude go to wallmart and buy 9007 sockets thats all u need... they are like $2.99 each... and get urself some 9007's...
the sticky tells you to file down the housings but a better way is to modify the bulb itself with a dremel tool... good luck its a pretty easy mod...

im reworking a harness right now. i found better 9007/9004 connectors at Advanced auto. i think they are just over $17 for 2. they have thicker gauge wire, better construction, and materials than the cheaper ones i was using.
you just need some relays, wire, fuses, assorted terminals and thats all.
i guess ill have to make a write up.

That's if you want to go the complicated route for extra power. From what I've seen, this doesn't make a huge difference. If he's asking all these questions, chances are he doesn't have the technical know-how to do anything beyond the basic setup.

I have a good bit of knowledge and I'm still going with the basic setup. I see no need to go any further.

What I'm doing is cutting the 2 wires that need to be switched, splicing in a little extra wire to give myself some headway to play with, and then of course switching them and splicing them back into the wiring for the factory 9004 socket. If you were real careful, it seems to me you could get away with never even adding extra wire...just switching the two wires.

So theoretically you could be using all OEM parts/wiring and never have to buy anything except 9007 bulbs.

You can do what was suggested or even more simpler is to go here: http://www.suvlights.com/, go to headlight wiring kits/harness. Buy the kit and your done, no parts missing, everything is in there except for the 9007 bulbs.

You can't loose doing this mod, its cheap. Even if it is going to be done by someone that knows electrical wiring, its still not a waste of time. I'm glad I did mine. BTW, I pieced my own parts together but I skipped the relays and just used thicker guage wiring. There's a couple of other ways to do this mod, but for the no brainer, go with the kit.

and where did you learn this from ? All I asked for was a simple grocery list for the upgraded 9007 system. THATS ALL. and to add anything USEFUL that you think might help me. The other writeup that is in the sticky, I can follow after I acquire my materials, although I did go over it once or twice and its not thoroughly explained for the noob edition.

But with that harness, will it work for the conversion? The way it looks, it seems as though the wiring would be kept the same (the low and ground wouldn't be switched like they need to be in order for it to work).

Has anyone actually done it this way, yet?

if you bought a 9007 harness you still need to switch the low and ground wires no matter what. you could cut the stock wires or the new harness it doesnt matter.

the reason for the upgraded harness is brighter output since the stock wiring losses voltage, also you can use any wattage bulb.

That's what I figured. Somehow I can't justify spending $55 for something that won't be plug-and-play though. It would be neat if they had a conversion harness where the wires were already switched for you. Until then, I'll stick with slightly lower voltage...

As already mentioned, the difference between the 9004 and 9007 is the high beam and ground terminals. Switch those on the 9004 and you got a 9007 harness, all you need now are the 9007 bulbs. Can't get any simpler than that.

All I did was leave everything as usual. Snipped the 3 leads going from the fusebox to the bulbs and spliced the larger guage wires already matted to the 9007 sockets in place. Switched the high and ground leads and I'm done! Then I double grounded each bulbs, one was the existing ground and the other was to the car chasis.

Ahh. High and Ground is what I meant That's basically what I plan to do, just switch the wires and file off those 2 nubs and call it a day.

Actually, its my bad!!! You are right, swap the low beam and ground leads. I just went to the stickies and read it. It's been a year since I did this last, sorry for the confusion.

Now you got me all confused j/k...I wouldn't do the procedure without looking at the stickies first, anyway.

When I turn on the high beams I notice on the wall the light that the 9007 bulb gives on the driver side does not go up like 7 inches, unlike the 9004 bulb on the passenger side. The light on the wall from the 9004 goes up like 7 inches. The 9007 bulb light on high beams just gets brighter, and does not move up or down. Is that normal ?

When I want to reground(double ground) the black wire.(Im using the cheap way for now, all stock parts with 9007 bulbs) When I splice the low beam and the ground wire, and switch them, which wire do I ground now?

ok, I got it all to work correctly. For reference, I am using Silverstars(which I know what you are going to say about them, but I got them for free. cant lose with freebees.) I am using the stock harness with just the low and ground wires switched by splicing them. I also double grounded the ground where it is connected with the low beam wire to the chasis which is grounded at the same spot to the battery.

Now, Suppose I want to get the Nokya's(which I want to soon). I know they run on higher wattage and I know I have to use a stronger harness. How do I put together this harness?

I just took some pics, but they are nothing close to what it looks like when you are standing next to them. The pics arent even close to justifying what I can see. And I have a 5.0 MP digital camera!

DO NOT....I repeat.... DO NOT switch the wires if you are going to stick to the 9004. You will end up having high beams as low beams and vice-versa. Bad idea! Switching the wires gives you a 9007 connection which means that when you switch wires, you WILL have to use a 9007 bulb.

ok.. ok

lol im kind of slow on electronics...

so if i do switch the Wires on the stock harness, and use a 9007 bulb there will be no need of buying an adapter where i have to splice?

basically i take the oem harness, cut the high, cut the low, switcht the wires, put high to low, and low to high, and then install the 9007 bulb ill be good to go without buying an adaptor?

Ok lemme go over the basics:

1) 9004 - stock wiring
2) 9007 - switch the low beam and ground leads
3) stock wattage 9004 doesn't need a harness upgrade (make sense)
4) over-wattage 9004 needs a harness upgrade (otherwise bulbs will burn out quicker or your sockets will melt)
5) stock wattage 9007 (ie: Silvania Silverstars or Xtra Visions) doesn't need a harness upgrade, just switch the low beam and ground leads
6) over-wattage 9007 (such as Nokya Arctic White) needs a harness upgrade AND you need to switch the low beam and ground leads

I did this because I'm too tired to write a whole novel explaining what was already in the stickies for this mod. If you are unsure about all this, don't do the mod because I won't be responsible for any shorts or electrical fires that could ensue if what I posted is misinterpreted or misunderstood.

lol dont worry i wont blame you Dennis about my car catching on fire

2) 9007 - switch the low beam and ground leads

so basically this is the only thing i was unsure of

o and stock wattage for 9007 is 65 watts

5) stock wattage 9007 (ie: Silvania Silverstars or Xtra Visions) doesn't need a harness upgrade, just switch the low beam and ground leads

ok this is what im going to do, ill just get stock wattage 9007 bulbs and switch the leads on the existing stock harness. my main question is, is this ok?

damnit, why wont anyone answer my question, since this is also my thread...lol
here it is again...
Now, Suppose I want to get the Nokya's(which I want to soon). I know they run on higher wattage and I know I have to use a stronger thicker wire harness. I know that I can buy one premade BUT I want to put one together myself. How do I put together this harness?
Thanks

Looks nice!

Now to put a higher wattage 9007 what number wire is enough to run it safely and(just didn't look in there) from what point it has to be changed?

It's freakin easy. Cut the two wires, solder them the other way, cover the exposed areas with electrical tape, done. Then you have to modify the headlight housing a bit.

Here's the write-up I used when I did it: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....1&page=1&pp=30

I have 9007 Xtravisions (cheap from ebay) and they light up the road nicely.

No, he's asking about how far you have to upgrade the existing harness when running a higher-than-stock wattage bulb.
