brake fuse keep blowing out
brake fuse keep blowing out
Anyone ever had this problem, brake light fuse keep on blowing out after new fuse replace, I at least replace like 10 fuse already and they all blow out. I even try putting a 20 amp and a 30 amp fuse and still it blow out. I found out I had no brake light two days ago, who know how long it wasn't working. Check very where for this short to ground even replace the brake switch and tail light bulb. I unplug my alarm, cause it has a remote starter, that had a wire to the brake switch to see if the alarm was causing the short but NO it wasn't that. And last night went to turn on the head light switch and the only light that was working was the head light and fog light, no front corner or tail light. check the fuse for that and replace it. now that is fix I think, but that damm brake light fuse is still blowing. Check again this morning, Ok the exterior light is working but still the fuse for the brake still blowing. I'm clueless on what to do next, need some advise.
there is got to be a short somewhere. also, if you really can't find the problem, you can increase the ampage of the fuse. this will propagate a bigger threshold for it to blow. let's say the brake light fuse is using a 15 amps fuse, then plug in a 20 amp fuse instead. it will probably solve your problem, but in the other head, running 20 amps over the original 15 amps setup may burn up the smaller wires. so be careful. i've done this before in my old nissan sentra when i had a crazy rewire electrical system. none of the wires burned up. this is just a suggestion.
Remove the bulbs, put in the fuse, check. If fuse blows test each socket by putting a multimeter lead on ground, and on the hot of the socket and check for ohms. Which ever one has continuity is the one that is grounded out. That should help narrow it down, somewhere something is grounded out. Good luck.
I use 15amp fuses but did try putting higher amp fuses and they all blow out, . for right now i put this 15 amp circuit breaker in it. and every time i step on the brake i can hear the circuit breaker click, I don't want to leave this circuit breaker on until i fix this short and i don't know where to find it. I look up on a wire diagram, there are a fuse to the brake switch, to the tail light, to ground. I check every where, took out bottom of dash board, side panel, switches, relay, rear seat, tail light housing . I just want to fix this problem cause its giving me a big head ache looking for wires.
You have a short. Multimeter is your friend. Go to work. Buy a Haynes manual. It has really good electrical schematics in it. pull your brake lights out and check in the housing for loose wires. Do not keep trying higher amperage fuses. There is a reason they have those fuses there. The fuse blows to protect your wiring from shorts. The fuse has nothing to do with this.
OK..... the blowing fuse clearly means that you have a short somewhere in the circuit. Best advice can give you is to take your car to an automotive electrician and have him trace the short. Also, never put a higher amperage fuse!!! Do you know what happens when your fuse stops to pop when a short ensues again??? Electrical FIRE!

I'll bet money you have an 1156 bulb in a socket. There supposed to be 1157. If you put an 1156 in an 1157 socket, you short out the two contacts which blows the fuse.
Ok I found that dam short. I took out that whole fuse box and check it, it was the fuse box itself, the one under the dash board. I would never thought it be that, some how it mess up and i don't know why it mess up. I just went out and bought a used fuse box, install it and that solve it. It took me a few days just to find a sticken short.
Finnally everything is working, hope it won't happen agian. Thanks for some advise everyone.
