moly coated pistons on VQ30?
does anyone know if the VQ30 has molybdenum coated pistons like the VQ35? if so, is Moly more susceptible to corrosion if exposed to solvents and cleaners (like Seafoam, ATF, lube control, etc)? the reason I ask is because I'm looking at different ways to clean the carbon out of my combustion chamber, and i don't want to damage the coating on the cylinders/pistons/valves (if there is any).

How many miles are on your car? How much carbon could be in your combustion chambers? A well maintained VQ is a very clean motor and I doubt you'd have any serious carbon buildup. Unless you've been running rich or burning oil or have had some other serious problem, I don't think you have much to be worried about. Mine has 214,000 miles on it and I'm not in the least bit concerned about carbon.
The question is: Has anyone done a complete teardown on a 250,000+ mile VQ30DE?
When my car finally does die, and I don't anticipate that to be any time soon, I want to tear the motor down and check it out just for the hell of it. I'd like to see how much wear there will be on moving parts, how much carbon there might be in the combustion chamber. That's not going to be for at least another 100k miles though. :P
