How long can transmission solenoids last if they are bad?

I have a problem with my rebuilt auto trans, the solenoids act up a lot during cold starts. The car will stall if I put it in gear if the fluid is not warmed up, and it likes to stay in one gear. When the fluid is warmed up the car is fine. I will be storing the car for 1-2 months since I will be out of town, I'm afraid that the problem might get worse if it's not taken care of. So how long will the solenoids last?

A buddy of mine had the exact same symptoms as I'm having, and he replaced his solenoids after 1 month and he said the problem gradually got very bad.

Also when coming to stop and the auto trans is downshifting out of first I hear kind of like a metallic type of sound, I was wondering if that is normal?

That depends on ALOT of different things.

1. How well it was rebuilt in the first place.
2. How much the tranny is beat on.
3. How well maintained the tranny is. ie: fluids kept full and clean.

I had an auto rebuilt, it was by a reputable and expensive place. This tranny is still in the car it was in today (which the auto was sold once I swapped). My brother in law owns it and he beats it. The rebuilt tranny has around 140k on it.

I had my 5 speed rebuilt when I first swapped. It now has 60k on it and still like the day I drove it home.

I don't think you understood my question.

The solenoids (5 of them) are acting up in the morning only, the transmission itself is fine when it's warm (the fluid that is) so how long will the solenoids, the electrical devices, last?

How long a part will last, no one can give you a clear cut answer, it may be a day or it may never go... As for your problem, the downshifting noise you are experiencing may be an indication of a larger problem that may or may not include the solenoids...

dmontzsta asked you a few very key questions... Also how long ago was the rebuild done, what was changed then, how have you driven and maintained the tranny since, etc?

I'm going to bet it's buildup in the valve body, not the solenoids themselves.

remove valve body. clean w/ solvent and brushes as necessary. reassemble. drive again.

Maximum Tuning replaced my transmission.
It is a semi-bullet proof trans.
It's not beat on, just driven hard occassionally.
I also have a shot rear motor mount, I'm thinking the trans or engine might be hitting something when I come to a stop. I also noticed it today when shifting between R and D. Or vice versa. It was rebuilt in August, so all fluids are new.

I would still go back to the shop you had it done at... The mount may be a cause of the problem, but being so close to the time you did the tranny, they may have messed up the mount in the process...

Well in order to do the tranny they would have to remove the crossmember, why would they touch the actual mount? I also got my headers done and Tilley was showing me how messed up the mount was, (The piece in which the long bolt goes in is actually un attached from the rest of the mount!!). Even if the tranny shop had to unbolt the rear mount I don't know how they would've messed it up. Plus Maximum Tuning know what they are doing when it comes to trans. I'm taking it to Jeff within the next week or two. Hope the best for me guys . Hopefully it's a quick fix.
