busted my max, how cheap can i get a beater?

if you check my 4th gen thread you know that I totally f'ed up my max and i'm gonna need a beater car to get me to work for god knows how long. What is the cheapest I could possibly get a running/somewhat running automobile for?

all depends on how lucky you are when shopping. should be able to easily find something for $1000...
heck, you can get a decent running S13 for about $1200...

A (I can't believe I'm saying this) Civic can be a good beater. I've seen some really inexpensive ones in the past. Look around and you will find something.

autotrader.com isnt that great but the autotrader mag is where ive found many cars, the free ones at the grocery store and such, i dont think they spend the time and put the beaters on the website but theres plenty in the mag.

if all else fails, ebay, thers lots of crap on there

the honda comment is a great one, they are good cars. i come from a saturn family, neighborhood, and group of friends. this is almost exactly the same as my beater car.

You can find a 1995-1999 Sentra for a fair price, and they're reliable cars.

no more than a couple bucks.

but really, good advice is to get a civic or something. last long, cheap and as mentioned, great gas mileage.

ok, good things come if you look for it. I managed to find a '90 mitsubishi eclipse TURBO 5spd for 200 bucks in good running condition, across the street. I also found a 91 ford escort GT in good runnin cond. for 300 from a friend. I bought a volvo for 100 bucks, and that was an AWESOME car, sold it the same day for 650, and I got a toyota corolla for FREE and sold it the next day for 800. You can always find deals, and beaters CAN be reliable.

I have a beater for sale!

Hey! I have a 1990 Nissan Maxima with a 5 spd manual that I would sell for cheap. There is some cosmetic damage and some thing wrong with the car, but nothing pertinent to operating the engine. It has roughly 250,000 miles on it with a new transmission about 30,000 miles ago. Brakes and exhaust are also good. The car has leather, Bose speakers, and a moonroof. I am talking of getting rid of it real cheap (ie $500). Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested.

Check junk yards. They usually have 3 or 4 running cars that they're selling. You can usually get good deals 'cause they paid like $60 bucks for it and fixed something easy. As far as what you want that's entirely personal preferrence...

2 years back I bought my 3rd gen just thinking it needed an exhaust. Well, $2k later in parts its running pristine, so overall I put about $3,300 into my 3rd gen, but it runs top notch and I have replaced parts for prevenative maintainence so I am not stranded. "Beaters" are a gamble though.
