Have the paint professionally detailed. It's hard to give you advice on what products to use without actually seeing the severity of the scratches and surface imperfections.

A professional detail should include the follow:

Machine Compound - This cuts the paint leveling the surface.
Machine Polish - Smoothes the surface even more, producing a real shine.
Swirl Remover - A must for dark colors, removes any machine marks and produces high gloss.
Hand wax to seal and protect the new finish.

The side of the BMW in my sig is machine polished and hand waxed which gives the paint extream clarity and deep gloss. FYI - That car has over 100K on it.

Yep, I detailed at Lexus over the summer, and on a black, or even blue car, a good detail will make 7 year old paint look better than showroom cars. The real trick is price. People I worked with do the exact same quality work as Lexus (duh) but paying the dealer to do it costs ~200 dollars, while privately it costs 100(if its black) otherwise 75 dollars. Shop around, ask if you can see the work area, ask to see some cars they are working on now. Do your homework, and you wont be disappointed!

Good advice from Rockfor about shopping around and looking at some work before you have it done. As far as price goes, I get $150 for a full detail, cars that need extra attention are quoted individually based on what the customer whats.
