1998 vs Integra Type S

here's the deal, I have a stock '98 auto maxima and my friend has a 1994 Integra Type S i believe its the lower model of the GS-R it is completely riced out, body kit rims only engine upgrade is a cold air intake...wouldnt call it much of an upgrade but he wants to race me on the track for $200, should i accept this challenge or let it go?

There's GS and GS-R, GS-R having VTEC and 170 hp stock ... nice little rice rocket.

GS I don't even know the rated HP ... .. Lower than the 170, you should win unless your car is ...

There ya have it LS = teh ghey .... unless he's spraying or F/I, you should win.

well i just found some info on them and stock it has 142hp and can do the 1/4 in 16.3 manual so with all the extra weight he has on and being an auto its probably like 16.5+ so i should have no problem right?

Not really its better to Turbo an LS then a GS-R becuase of the low compression but you should smoke him on the other hand GSR'S are quick little cars.

You forgot about the SE model available for only one year with the standard 142HP non-VTEC B18C

LS/GS/SE/RS are all trim levels and ALL use the same b18b non vtec motors....they are all rated at 142hp....either with a 4spd auto or a 5spd manual...the main difference between the trims is probably the weight...I know GS & the SE are probably the heaviest out of the group since they come pretty much fully loaded

GS-R & Type R both come with B18C VTEC motors....170hp rated in the GSR and 195hp rated in the type r....they both come standard with 5spd manuals with the type R's manual having shorter gears and LSD than the GS-R....these cars are the ones maxima's should fear as with the right mods and the right driver, they can easily pull on depending on which year & mods...

Wow.... someone got their info straight. Lemme guess.... used to own a Honda or on the Honda-tech right? Same here.

Note: If it's an LS/GS/SE auto you have nothing to worry about unless if your max is a slow **** running mid 16's.

is it a rumor or legit that mod for mod the GSR reacts better and gains more HP? aka a better modding engine VS the type R motor.

Naw, never owned a honda...but did alot of research on it in the past...times have changed since then, but I still do know the basic fundamentals of honda engines...like their HP, comp ratio, price....

I don't think so...well as far as I'm concerned....mod for mod...the b18c5 (type R) will always have more HP than a b18c1 (gs-r)

if you guys haven't known, the B18C1 & B18c5 are both the same engines...I think the only differences are the more aggressive cams, the intake manifold (same as b16a unit) and higher compression....I know theres a few more differences but I forgot...it's been awhile since I read up on this...Nealoc should know this stuff...he use to own 2 hondas..right?

think of it as a Vq30de & Vq30dek...both the same engines...only minor differences to give it the extra 20-30hp...

oh! what i really meant to say was that the GSR reacts better to boost. which makes sense because the type r's are built for high N/A performance. yup you're right, the high compression, cam profiles...

00-01 B18Bs only had 140HP, detuned for emission reasons from 142HP. VERY slow cars, with an auto, they have seem to run between 16.8-17.0 at my local strip from what I remember in the past. I remember getting into a grudge match (7 years ago) with my 93 SE-R on 100 shot of direct port NOS and few other bolt ons, kid kept on talking smack at the strip that his Integra LS Auto with all these mods runs 14 second 1/4 miles.... I think I ran a better 1/4 time than he did in his 1/8 mile.

Well, that was the gayest post in this thread.

Having owned a 91 Integra LS, you will smoke him. You'd beat him even with a busted KS.

I think it's all small things like valve springs and things of that nature.

GS-R's are not slow. Awhile back I ran one with similar mods (I had intake/Y/STS/ACT stage 1 he was running a Skunk 2 intake manifold and headers) and although I edged him out each time, it was very close and the only place I made up ground was the bottom end where he had to shift more. It really could have been a driver's race.

From what I know about the LS motor is has a stouter bottom end and that's why it reacts better to boost. This is also why the LS-VTEC is referred to as "the best of both worlds", although MANY people would dispute....

integra ls 's are slow, your max will definately beat him if his car is completely riced out..

I started with a 97 GLE auto before i did my conversion, but i use to race my buddy with his LS 5spd multiple times...If you are unmodded with at least an intake i'd say your cars are neck and neck or at least pretty close. If you know how to drive your car you have a chance. My buddy always ran a 16sec 1/4 miles with just an intake. I ran a 15.6 with an intake but i did beat him majority of the time. But it's hard to say so just race him but if your not confident your better off taking that 200 and spending it on mods in my opinion....

i would most definitely race an auto integra RS. You have a GXE, so you're already the lightest maxima, and i bet his rims and bodykit arent helping him out in the weight department. Get your launches down, and you should OWN him. Do not "manually shift" an auto, thats why it's called an auto. if you're not confident in doing it, don't race. Make sure he doesnt have nitrous.

Not petaining to this thread, but you say this as a general rule...
My A32 with MEVI/7200 is best shifted manually @ 7k.

Yeah, when my max was auto I felt like i had better results when I had shifted it manually, i just tried multiple runs at the track, and my best times were shifted. This is out of maybe at least 30 runs. Who knows, maybe it's just me...

it's not just you, but a lot of people don't feel comfortable shifting an auto

Moral of this sub story, shift according to your powerband.

he didn't say he had a VI of any sort or ecu upgrade, so i'm assuming he has the stock rev limiter and USIM. Having said that, it's pointless to shift the auto manually, as it shifts close to redline anyway. if he had an extended rev limiter, shifting would be NECESSARY to get in the optimal power band.

I still can't undertstand why you would want to "manually" shift a stock AUTO car. Let it do what it's built for, not to mention you'll be more consistant with your times.

being an owner of 3 integras in the past(probably going to get flamed for this but oh well...)

you should be able to take the ls and his $200 with no problem especially with his being auto unless you suck at driving.

and to clear things up gsr's and especially the type r's have lots and lots of potential with some mods especially if you go boost.

HAHA! Race him, take his money!

I am gonna get flamed for being a honda guy and for being new to this forum but yes, you should take him fairly easily seeing as an LS auto is about as fast as an escort 5spd with a 400lb fat man.
Beware of those sporting swaps such as the b18b-turbo, b18c1 GSR, b18c5 Type R, LS-VTEC or ANY K-series motors.

What I'm surprised I didnt see was any mention of the blacksheep swap or... H22a

thats the pos i'm rockin

Probably because no one, or hardly anyone, has ever heard of it. I've never heard of it, and I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about hondas, I've got some friends heavily into them. I've got one buddy with about $10k into his built b18C5 and trans, and I just asked him if he'd ever heard of it and he hadn't. What is it?
