Rear Main Seal Automatic Transmission

My rear main seal is leaking badly. I am buying all the seals for this job. Im just wondering if anyone has done this for an automatic transsmission. I have heard that I have to pull the engine with the tranny on it. If so does anyone have any tips that has pulled the engine? Or a way of doing this without pulling the engine. Manual Tranny is different I know so don't remind me how wasy it is with a manual transmission please..
Thanks

I've pulled an auto tranny without taking the engine out. It came right out the bottom...

meh auto or manual just pull the tranny, same procedure just more wires and finess with the auto.

I did my 5 speed conversion and didnt replace the seal. Though about every other seal though. but not the hardest to get one....

I did this job when I swapped to a high stall torque converter. I took some pictures during that project on my VE Auto. Same principle. I just dropped the tranny out from the bottom. My advice is to get a tranny jack! Those things are awesome!!!!!! I got mine from Harbor Freight for $60 or so. And it's of great quality.

Make sure you buy an oil pan end gasket as well, it could be leaking. When I thought my rear main seal was leaking, it was actually the oil pan gasket. Replaced both.

I couldn't hardly beleive after 286,000 miles, the rear main was not leaking yet...
