Possible problem?

Don’t know if it’s a problem, but it sure annoys me. Since I got the car almost 4 months ago, I’ve noticed that around 2000 rpm in 2nd or 3d gear a sort of rattling noise starts coming from the engine. It’s not all the time, I think it happens when I drive for longer periods of time. No shaking of any sort(engine/transmission), just the noise. All I have to do to get it to stop is to let off teh gas pedal and then “floor” the it to the increase the rpm’s to 2500-3000+. The car picks up speed and noise disappears. Transmission shifts fine. While in idling engine sounds good. Under hard acceleration from a stop the noise dos not appear. What could it be?

thanks, timing chain tensioner sounds as a possibility ...........i know it's a major thing to change timing belt, but to check the tensioner on the chain how much time and $$ am i looking at? how does oil pump make up noises like that? Sorry i'm not a mechanic.... Others have suggested transmission problems

The tensioner works off of oil pressure, so if pressure is low, the tensioner will exert less force on the timing chain. This causes the chain to rattle.
