Do we have directional sawblades?

I've noticed on several 4th gens including mine that the directional sawblades are facing opposite directions on each side. Is this how they are supposed to be or are there some maxima owners running out two different sets of wheels on their cars?

I never noticed this, but I imagine that it makes sense that the wheels face opposite directions since the pattern on the wheel is directional:

After having gone outside and thoroughly examined my 15" sawblades, I am sure the intent is to improve steering response.

When I switched from the factory honeycombs on my GLE to some sawblades, my car turned like it was on rails and the torque steer was gone.. un-buh-leev-able.

it's just a way for Nissan to save some money. Rather than design two different wheels and make sure that they are put on the correct side of the car, they designed one so they could slap them on anywhere. and also, if you look at the car from one side, the rims match from front to back so a casual glance wouldn't tell you that the other side is facing the opposite direction.

I would think that NO manufacturer with asymmetric designs does it differently. What about when you rotate wheels and stuff - if you have two different directional patterns on each car, you would only be able to rotate front to back on the same side, rather than diagnoally (that's another discussion altogether).

we have 4 wheels all the same, but other companies do make different wheels. the CRX has 2 different wheels, this way they point in the same direction as long as they are installed correctly.

I noticed this when I had sawblades on for a few weeks this summer.

Passenger side looks better, they CUT the road!

That helps the ricers determine if they are going forwards or backwards.

this is true, and in turn, it improves traction, but driver's side is more aerodynamic and therefore slices the air, if you will. it's a trade-off

This thread sucks? When's the last time you actually got out of your chair and examined your car because of a thread

Z32's also have a right side and left side design, it is supposedly designed to cool the brakes. I know ours aren't a functional design but still, if they built a whole car I don't know why they couldn't go the extra mile and design one more wheel.

I wonder if they realized what they were doing when they designed the wheels like that. It wouldn't be such a big deal but if you compare the two different looks there is a pretty big difference. It's like walking around with two right feet

I was just joking in my earlier response, but I actually did go out and look at my sawblades as I didn't have a clue what the originator of the thread was talking about, nor can I get excited about it.

The sawblades are to my knowledge all cast the same way, meaning that there is no way around having them facing one way on one side and facing the other way on the other side.

Yeah, my bad, I had a hard time explaining it without a picture to go with it

True, I still don't know why they didn't just make the car symmetrical. In fact, have you seen any other car that had the same flaw in it's design

I guess the 15's were meant to be upgraded from the beginning

I just upgraded my 15s a little over a month ago. I bought a new set of Yokohama Avid H4S for them as an 11th birthday present.

Check out any pointiac - they typically use a saw-blade like rim pattern.. I don't know if they are symmetrical or not, but just another example of a car rim with a saw-blade pattern.

all the more reason to get some 5 spokes. now that i know a major point of my car is asymmetrical im gonna be very angry all the time. Symmetry = my favorite thing ever. Id have 2 steering wheels if it were cheap!

Here's the best way to show it, this is venompwr2's car from another thread:

Notice how the passenger side rims are agressive looking like they cut into the road, but the driver's side rims look less agressive. I'm sure I'm not the first person to notice this.

Until today I actually thought I just had the wrong two wheels on one side of my maxima. I wonder if anything else on my car is backwards

uhhh....is it not possible to just flip the tires around?? that way it is symmetrical...nissan probably got lazy and threw all the tires on each rim the same way...less thinking involved

it's the RIM we are talking about not the tire
and if you mean the rim, how do you mount the rim flipped around?

They point forward on one side, and backward on the other. If you lay them on the ground together they all face the same way.

I'm pretty sure Nissan didn't make right & left wheels.

Maybe you should take off the wheel & put it on backwards, so the blades go forward.
