Sux buying a salvaged Maxima

1 thing guys... dont buy a salvaged Maxima... This is my first car and my parents got it for me cant complain but damn. front end bumper is fu cked up. The bumper was pushed too far forward on the right side of my car and was pushed to far to the drivers side of the car. Although, i have to fix up my car i cant drive a stock car... I mean who can? hehehe. Anyways. I was thinking would it be a good idea to convert the whole body bumper and side skirts to a 97-99 Maxima? I mean I love the way the body on the 97-99's look. My front bumper is all retarded and it gives me trouble when i installed my aftermarket lights... i had to drill holes to be able to get my headlights to be centered. Anyways back to my question do you think it would be a great idea and investment to change the whole front end, side skirts, and back bumper into a 97-99 Max? I've seen the stickies and it can be done but id like to get your guys opinion on what i should do. Thanks a bunch.

If you have the $, go for it. 97-99 does look a lot better than the 95-96 IMO.

As long as there is no damage under (where the bumper bolts to) I say go for it.

Just make sure whats under there is straight to begin with.

I have to take off the bumper and do a little bumping around to the chassis or something to make the bumper even...

95/96 sideskirts = 97-99...

and you're complaining that the car you were given has cosmetic problems...for a salvaged car, you're lucky that's all that is wrong with it...i wouldn't sweat it. if you can afford to have the work done, then go for it.

Don't ever complain about your parents getting you anything for free. You saved between 6-9k. I wish I had a Maxima handed to me. Jesus.

Last time I checked, he wasn't asking you guys if you had purchased your maxima or not, he wants to know what he should do with his salvaged title maxima. If he wanted a lecture on how lucky he is, he would have asked.

There's a good reason why a car is salvaged. The chasis of your car is probably tweaked from a previous accident. If that is so, you can get any oem bumper parts but it won't line up right. Which is probably why your front bumpers don't line up now to begin with. Before you dump all your money into all this, have your chasis checked, at least the area of it where you'll be doing work on because a new bumper still wouldn't look good if you can't mount them right. Also check the bumper hardware behind the bumper cover, make sure you can at least align everything so that when you put the bumper cover on, it will all line up correctly.

BTW, why would any parent buy their kid a salvaged car??

To answer the original post, if you have the money... why not? But if you don't then just fix the front end for now and worry about the side and rear when you have more funds. However, since it is salvaged... what makes you think a different bumper would go on straight? Personally, I like the way the '97-'99's look much better than the '95 & '96's.

You made your sig in photoshop - you need to remake it, but smaller. It's too many pixels wide/long.

Still to wide - limit is 550pixels, yours is 625 or something like that.
trim some of the space on both ends of the car

1) Its a hell of a lot cheaper.
2) They dont have to worry if you wreck a new car cause its already been wrecked or hit.
3) Where i live thats all they sell here... Salvaged cars.
Come on thats all they sell here in my city, salvaged cars. I live in a border city where they send them to mexico have them fixed for cheap and sell the cars for cheap.

Anyways i think the only thing that is messed up in the front end is the radiator beacket and the 2 chassis prongs that hold the bumper as well on each side. Anyways i am really looking into gettin a 97 front end to get foglights. cause foglights for 95 are a ****in fortune to buy. As well they are ****in rare to find on ebay. And, if i find them they have about 10 bids on them.

He should spend the money he saved from not purchasing it for himself. By simply reading the FAQ's he would understand that it would cost under 500 to do a 97-99 swap. He should also understand it is a blessing to have a car given to him, whether it has 2 wheels or 4.

"This is my first car and my parents got it for me cant complain but damn."

I'm not trying to rag on him, but there's a reason why I hate this crap. The 5th gen is full of threads like this as well and it makes me

Cheaper?? Maybe, but in the long run, we'll see. Your car is salvaged and so far you are only able to identify one problem. Who knows what other problems are lurking in your car, we'll find out later on.

I remember when my parents got me a 10 year old car when I was starting high school it is old but not salvage. It had 77k original miles, one owner, and the car is imacculate. My parents paid $1200 for it. That car lasted me 5 yrs and my parents got me a brand new 88 IRoc Z for graduation. I considered myself pretty darn fortunate.

$4,000??? How many miles were on it? They got ripped off if it has "tons of problems" with it.

.... Instead of "quietly" trying to start a flame war i.e do not let everyone know that your car was given to you... Simply post what's valid and needs recognition.

I sure as hell wouldn't have came in if I would have knoe it was a 96/7 conversion thread ...

Sell me your wheels.

It's just the nature of the matter. My little brother just turned 18 and my parents bought him an '88 Honda accord with 205,000 miles on it. There is scratches, paint is dull, and it needs afew other minor details. The fact that he embraced it (since he no longer has to take the bus) is what really matters.

Search around and do research on how to maintain your car. If you have problems, we're here to help. but try not to b!tch about your "salvage" maxima too much.

How much did your parents pay for a salvages maxima?

I got my 97 maxima with 160000 miles for $1500
needed new rear brakes, paint on both rear fenders, pain rear bumper, new muffler, tune up, motor mounts, tires. Ended up paying a total of $4000. Oh yeah my parents paid for everything.
