Little green man in the Gas tank?

Well here's the situation guys.....my car , whenever I turn on the auto climate control , it blows , whether it be heat or air con, air that smells...or reeks, more accurately, of gas. Not conincidentally, my gas mileage has been going WAY down lately......

What's going on folks? I'm not rich enough to have the stealership look at it...

what you have is a gas leak. probably some rubber hose has a crack in it. it could be any hose under the hood. after 10 years, you get that with hoses. you'll have to open the hood, probably prop it open because the factory hood shocks are also dead by now and sniff around while the engine is running. the colder the temperature, the worse the leak will be, so do it with a cold engine.

replaced knock sensor some time back for another problem.....so that's not it. I know Nissan , unlike certain unnamed domestic car companies ( ahem.... cough, FORD....) don't make explosive vehicles, so I'm not THAT worried. But still, it royally sucks to roll into work smelling like you've been on a bike, not to mention the consternation on other people's faces when they smell the gas INSIDE the car.....

Kinda bad for dates/romantic mood if your interior smells like 92 octane fuel .....

Pull the back seat up and see if you notice any seepage from the access panel on top of the tank..

try looking at the rubber hose that connects the fuel rails. It is on the left end of the rails as you are looking at the motor. I had the same problem w/ smelling gas in my max and this is what it was. hope this helps

Check the fuel filter also, its somewhat near the intake for the ac/heat, so i wouldnt doubt that it might be the problem...
