Found perfect Optima Red Top to fit max/I30

Just thought I'd pass this along. Have been reading for years about different size red tops to fit our cars and how some sizes don't fit correctly.

With the winter coming I figured it was time to replace my original battery on my 2000 I30, but I wanted an Optima that was "plug and play"

Well, bought a red top-35 and it is a perfect fit! The post are in the right place and no modifications are needed, other than using the supplied bottom tray to sit the battery alittle higher.

Got it here. Excellent price and very quick service:

Looks like more are on there way 12/7.

The Optima Red Top Part No. 75/35-OR is a direct fit according to people on this site and that is what I'm getting next month...This battery I just listed has the same specs as yours so I assume it's probably the same thing altho the posts may be off from the picture on that site by a few mms. but people said there are no mods needed to make the 75/35 fit

Yes, saw the 75/35 at Costco, but the post are furthur down the sides of the battery and I wasn't sure the neg. cable would reach. (I have an extra grounding wire to my neg. post)

It works fine on my 2k2, that's what I have. I also have a grounding kit.

Thanks. Looks like the red top 75/35 and the 35 will work them.

Do not get the 34R...It is not a direct bolt on for 5th gens....I have one myself and had to modify the positive terminal in order to make it fit....what a pain....5 minutes to swap in a new battery took me 2hrs instead...

Yes, looks like only the 75/35 and the 35 are "plug and play" options for the red top.

insted of proping up the new battery you could spend a few bux and buy 2 new J hooks. Either shorter ones or ones with more threads.

Yep, that's the one I bought from Costco this past spring. I wanted the yellow top, but they didn't have them. Only had red and blue.

Ya, Remy Battery has some good prices. With shipping the red top 35 came to $99.00.

Last week when I checked the 75/35 at Costco had gone up to something around $110 in our area (NJ)

I just cut the OEM ones down and added a few small washers then the acorn nuts. Looks pretty clean....

Red is designed for starting only and can't take deep discharges/charges like the Yellow top.

What I have read is that people who run their aftermarket stereo system with the car off will do better with the yellow top.

I thought there was at least three people who chimed in on another thread i started about the 75/35 Red Top battery that said it fit perfectly with no adjustments such as raising it or adding washers. There was one with a 5th gen and I believe two with a 5.5 Gen that said this...anybody confirm?

Not sure, but raising it is no big deal. The battery comes with a red "stand" that you clip onto the bottom of the battery. This way you can use the existing J hooks without any modifications.
