Y-pipe and OBDII Inspection

anyone have any trouble with CEL lights after putting on a y-pipe and have issues passing an OBDII Inspection....particlarly those in NY......and would a non-OBDII cat keep killing 02 sensors and throw codes.....i ask because my old maxima i sold to my brother and we replaced all 3 O2s and still getting 02 codes...another code was Knock Sensor but i said hold off until we get o2s replaced...so i reset teh ECUa fter changing 02s and CEL light came right back on.....do u think it could be teh cat not-being obdII..or y-pipe...i know post might be long and confusing but i am sick of trying to fix this car....anyone know where i can get some o2 simulators

Did you put an after market y-pipe which removes the precats? If so, you will need to either move your s2ndary o2 sensors behind the main cat, or get an o2 sensor simulator (o2sim.com, or cattman.com). If the car was purchased in NY new, it will have Cali emissions, and this will most likely be your problem... but check the trouble code before you dive into anything.

I'm looking at a Stone Mountain Racing y-pipe and racing headers. Does anyone have any feedback on this name brand or if the headers will pass normal state emissions - not california -

there is an o2 sensor per bank, and then the one after the cat.

I cant recall seeing fuses for the o2 sensor under the dash, so I'd assume it must be under the hood.

First of all, you will not get by NY's OBD II "I/M Readiness test" with these codes. The heater circuit codes indicate an "open circuit" (read disconnected or cut wire) for the sensor heaters. You can also consider pulling the sensors and checking the heater circuit itself to see if it is out......

i know it wont pass inspection thats the whole point of this thread....but anyway.....my brother was an idiot and checked the wrong fuse for his o2 heaters.....turns after I FINALLY got my hands on the car today i looked it over and checked the right fuse and it was toast.....the dumb **** that installed the Air/Fuel gauge for me was probing all the wires and must of killed it........so....I REPLACED the fuse cleared the ECU and so far no codes....

FYI - Deezy...the heater fuse is under the dash...my brother checked the eccm fuses under the hood for some reason I dunno...hes not to strong in his automotive knowledge
