how to retain dimmer function on sony head unit?

I replaced my non-Bose with a Sony head unit that came with one ilumination input and it performs dimming when dash light turns on. However, I will like to have it controled by the dimmer on the dash as it did with factory HU. What I found from the factory wiring is that it has both ilumination and dimmer negative wires. The sony wiring only has ilumination and no dimmer negative. Therefore my dimmer negative wire is now open. Any tips appreciated.

Ground to the chassis or any other bare metal surface.

would that make dimming work for the stereo? I guess I'll try it and find out. cuz right now the dimmer switch dims all the dash lights, just not the stereo.

It's designed to be dimmed when the headlights turn on so that the buttons on the faceplate are illuminated at night.
