Spoiler brake light problem
Spoiler brake light problem
The brake light on the rear spoiler is out. Mechanic said that its a bit of a problem to fix because it uses diodes or something instead of light bulbs. He also said that he can put on a maxima wing that he has lying around somewhere and repaint it to match my car for $100. Is there an easy way to just simply replace the diodes on my current wing and thats it? Anyone know of a write up on how to do this?
I had the same problem, couldn't step by step it for you but the leds are life long, they will never burn out. The problem is there is a fuse in there that will break in case moisture or anything happens. This is the main problem and more than likely for what ever reason the fuse has blown which causes no brake light! Anyway, all you have to do is pinpoint the break in the fuse, its tiny, you can use a thin piece of metal and solder it back in place and that is it. I used a very small piece of metal I found in a mechanic shop I used to work at, it was thinner than the diameter of a paper clip. If you use anything too thick, it will not be able to break again thus causing major problems! Make sure you use some good silicone around the seal once you put it back together so no moisture can get up in there. Good luck...
Its on the circuit board of the spoiler itself. You have to remove the spoiler from the trunk, then there are 4 (I think) screw on the red lens of the brake light. Remove them, then you will need a puddy knife or something to go along the edge of the lens to remove the silicone sealant. Then it should pop off and will expose the circuitry and the LED's. Like I said, can't step you through it any further, not exactly sure where it is. I did it about 2 years ago and had a mechanic help me when I worked at a car dealership. Not sure if the chiltons manual would show you the layout or not, but worth a try. Good luck again!
I had a similar prob. with my spoiler lights too. Follow the wires on the inside of the trunk that run to the spolier. there should be a small white connector. I had problems with that connector "rotting out". Cut it on each side of the connector and wire tap it back together. Works great now. Just a suggestion.
Hope that helps.
