I need some suspension info, please

Finally, I'm making active steps to purchase the suspension for my car. It'll be the Eibach Pro-Kit Springs and either Illuminas or KYB AGX's.

Thing is, I need clarification on a few things things:
1. The issue of reduced clearance with lowering springs. Is that an issue REGARDLESS of what lowering combo is used? Does it affect front and rear or rear only?

2. In searching, there does not appear to be a comprehensive list of ALL parts needed for a suspension rebuild/install in one place. Does all the stuff here need to be changed as well?

3. Someone a while back, DID try to make a list of everything they used when they did their install. I couldn't find it while searching. If anyone has it, could they please post it?
Thanks for putting up with all this. I just want to do it once and do it right.

how many miles you got? probably wont need to replace the whole list.

you'll have plenty of clearance with the eibach pros front and back. i would definately replace the bump stops (first 2 pictures from the the list).

i would suggest the illuminas for shocks.

I'm at 237,xxx miles on a completely stock suspension other than an FSTB. Surprisingly, while I acknowledge that the shocks are worn, they are not blown and still offer decent control and handling. I've had the car on track at three track events and was surprised at how well the car did. But, it's time for a change!

I have Eibachs with Illumina's and love the set up the majority will agree Illumina's are the better flavour.
"1. The issue of reduced clearance with lowering springs. Is that an issue REGARDLESS of what lowering combo is used? " YES "Does it affect front and rear or rear only?" Affects both but Eibach's are among the minimum's in the amount of drop so with these springs the clearance as far as the body is the lesser of these issues and frankly I have a skirt kit and an inclined driveway so don't worry about that with the Eibachs, you'll have to watch out (with a lip) for high parking still curbs.

2. Only you know wether you need all these parts depending on the condition of your original ones, my car had 120K when I did the swap and didn't replace any other parts that didn't come with the Illumina's.

3. There again... depends on the condition of your parts you've got a lot of mileage there so without seeing your car you could take the better to be safe than sorry approach. There are good stickies on installs, good luck and good choice ILLUMINAS!

at the minimum replace the dust boots, but at over 200k you may as well buy almost everything. the rubber parts take the most beating, like the bump stops and bushings. i havent run into a bad strut mount or bearing yet in all the installs i have done. do a visual inspection before taking everything apart. if you have no funny noises or alingment issues you should be ok, but dont be alarmed if you need to buy extra parts that are worn out. eibachs are a great choice, i have them with agx. i would steer you tward illuminas also, for a comfy ride that is. also oem suspension parts are by far the best stuff out there. suposedly kyb mounts are terrible and i know their boots rip very easy.

i replaced my suspension recently with about 100k miles on the stock suspension. i replaced dustboots/bumpstop with KYB parts. nothing else looked like it was on it's last breath, so it wasn't really worth it to replace it all.

At 132K replaced stock suspension, and all rubber parts still seemed in great shape. dust boots were gone but that was to be expected.

How much do those pink insert sheets cost? Do we have to replace those as well?

Agree. Visual inspection is your best friend and since you will be basically pulling the whole assembly apart you'll have a good chance to look. I replaced bump stops, bearings, boots and gaskets just as precaution. Max has 165K and felt that as long as I was there would be good idea to replace. Parts for left and right will cost about $100. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Go with the Illumina's.

wrd of advice...

replace teh sturt mount bearings... on fornt.. rear mount bushings... with dealer part.. not kyb...

also .. find a thin yet rubber hose to put on teh spring to keep from getting the noise form teh springs hitting eachother.. it happenes to alot of epople.. and better to do before install than later.. on teh front springs only... also teh spring isolaters form teh dealer dont work.. they wear out after a while... use a rubber tube or soemthign.. its addressed in the FAQ's... ahhh

thats about it.

I can get you a set of D2 coilovers for cheap!
Or you can buy my previous setup (eibachs, Koni fronts, AGX rears)... Ready to bolt in with everything you need. PM me if you're interested.

With the eibachs rubbing, scraping, or anything like that won't be a problem unless you've got speedbumps that are about a foot and a half tall....
Try dropping your car three inches and then you'll see what scraping is (ie: getting stock going up the ramp to get an allighnment done tonight...

Since you're local, I could also install this setup for a ALOT cheaper than you'll get from any shop.... and IF you buy mine, you won't have to pay shipping costs
