how long have you been modding your max?

well my maxima is my first car, as it is for a lot of people, and i've already put a fair amount of modification into it after only having my car for 2 years now come feb. basically i'm wondering if the mod bug has hit me too hard and if i should space out my mods, and save some of my money. especially considering i plan on keeping my car through and past college (4+ years down the road). here's a good example- i really want to lower my car but i dont want to half *** it by just getting springs, then struts when my stock ones blow out, then be wanting coilovers since they own springs/struts. so i plan on just going straight to coils but spending $750+ would leave me seriously broke for a long time, and if i keep this car for as long as i plan to maybe i should have some patience.

so anyways, how long have you had your car and been modding it? is modding just a phase you go through when your 16-early 20s and one that you'll grow out of? or should i have patience and save up some money instead of blowing it all on my car getting it "finished" after a few short years of owning it?

this is my first car as well, and the first thing i did after i bought it was search online which is how i came accross the org. changed my LIFE. if i didnt have the org i dont know what my maxima would look like, i'd be oblivious compared to how i am now.
i modded since december of last year when i got the car, but didnt get my license until 2 months later. I have probably put about 2000 into it in a year. half of that is my wheel/tire set up. then my bolt ons.
i know waht you mean, about spacing it out...i've been trying real hard to space things out. i told myself if i didnt spend any big money for a couple months i'd buy myself something nice for christmas but i dont know if i'll be able to wait. i'm about to buy some ksport coilovers. by the time its all said and done, i'm sure it'll be close enough to christmas though. heh.
by the way, you'll probably get flamed for this thread...i dont know though. heh.

I'v had my car for three days and I'v already taken the governer ordered a fifth gen clutch and if i have anything left over an intake, and hopeing for a y-pipe from the rents for christmas.

P.S The only reason im dropping all this money into it is cuz i scored on the car and have some extra cash left over. I'm sure i could be wise about this and spend the money on something more practical....I even got a new job to support the maxima fund. I can tell this is gonna be a long and money draining relationship.

Bought the car in April of this year and paid for it in full on the same day.

I have been modding/maintaining since a few hours after it got home. I would imagine that I have another 1.5-2 years before the car would be "done". The only other major mods I would go for would be wheels and a lip or whole kit.

I like to take my time and research the parts I am putting on my car so I don't rush by any means. I really enjoy and get great satisfaction out of doing work on my car and I have learned everything (I mean EVERYTHING) from Maxima.org.

I don't see myself growing out of this anytime soon, and that's fine with me.

You know it's kinda common for people to have the modding bug once you get a car but you should take your time. I've had my maxima for about 3 years so far. I remember when I first got the car I would save all my money for mods and nothing else. After a while, it got really expensive and I felt like I was missing out on some better things. So recently, I've completed what I wanted to do with my car and I've been spending my money on other less expensive things.

If I were you I would make a list of what you want do with the car and go for it. But make it a reasonable list something that you could really achieve.

I think dumping money into your car is fine if that's what you want to do. I don't let myself feel guilty about it because its what I feel is the right thing to do....where as other people I see spend it on stupid crap like clothing and whatever other bs.
And I got a job to fund my own ....stuff.
But what I'm sayin is it seems practical to spend money on what's going to make me happy. Money is for spending.

I think I started in May or June? Whenever the snow melted up here! I had no idea what types of mods could be done to Maxima's previously because before I found this site, I had never seen a modded Max. I can't afford to do much because I have to pay off the car and save up to go back to school in the fall so I'm doing a few cheaper mods in the meantime. I can't justify spending $2000+ on rims/tires when I could put that money towards tuition/living expenses/insurance, etc. so I'm going to be modding slowly which will make it more exciting when I save up enough money to do the things I'd really like to do!

This is my first real car and I've been modding for less than a year. But it's not a 'late teens, early 20's' modding phase. I'm serious about making this thing stupid fast, and actually making sht happen.
