Looks half decent. Almost looks like a Cattman Y-pipe.

Should fit

I like that its stainless steal...chicago winters suck...but just dissapointed on the fact that upon close examination the flex tubing is 2.5" and pipe afterward is only 2" (from examing welds)

2" on the downpipes is Competly normal. it should be 2 1/2 where they meet and run past the flex section.

The downpipes shouldnt be any larger than 2". You have 2" outlets on your stock headers

yeah, most would be 2.5" i believe. you won't lose much, but probably won't be quite the same. not bad for the price, though. if it works.

Even if it is 2" which I doubt because I have a topspeed y, you will still gain some horses because of no precats. It's 2.5 if is really from topspeed. Stainless steel for that money you can't really beat that. Mine had a leaking flex though right out the box.

Do it yourself in your garage. Just go to a muffler shop first and tell them to remove and replace just the bolts on the Y-pipe. Then go back to your garage, jack it up, and install it. Getting those bolts off is the hardest part of the install, especially if those bolts are rusted to hell.

Just get installed...for $100 they should be able to put a new Y-pipe in for you. I got mine installed for less than $60.

$100 just to replace the bolts is unheard of. Then you have to spend the rest of the day getting the new y-pipe in there

yeah they said the bolts were rusted and probably needs to be torched and expecting between 1-2 hours of work to replace bolts....they wont put in the new y pipe cause they said since it eliminates the factory precats its illegal.

if anyone has a shop or is willing to do this for me...i would be more than willing to pay them $100.

well there are more muffler shops but I bet they wont put it on either...I found these two shops that might put it in but one of them i think is gonna be costly...quoted me 1600 for y-pipe and headers with install. And the other seems kinda ghetto...they lowered my coworkers prelude by heating the springs.

well if your handy and have the tools and time, the bolts on the manifold should come off easily with a air compressor

its just the dam bolts on the cat are a bich, i had to chope them off, and use a tap and die set to make make my new threads...its a bich, but i wouldnt do it in this cold.

btw a 100? are they on crack

It always feels good after installing something on your own and saving the money to pay someone to do it for you. I try and do as much as I can on my car.

Meineke replaced all my hardware for $30. Did the rest of the install myself.

Header installs shouldn't be more than $250-$350 if the shop knows what they're doing.

Yes, they are liable if they do an illegal install, but No, it should not take 1-2 hours. Torching and replacing the bolts took Meineke 20 mins for me, given that I have a 2002 with 46k miles. I highly doubt it'll take 1-2 hours.

You could just try posting in the regional forum to see if any .Orgers can hook you up and help ya with the install. If you have to do it yourself, drench the hardware with Liquid Wrench or something everyday for a week and find someone with a good impact wrench.

eyah i would like to do it myself but im afraid of the rusted bolts...merlin muffler said that it probably needed to be torched. I dont wanna deal with breaking a bolt. plus i dont think i have the proper tools to do it...i dont have an air compressor. ive asked all my friends but they dont have the tools either.

edit: meineke did it for $30. imma check my phone book if theres one near by.

Clarification, Meineke did everything except the rear manifold hardware, which I thought would be fine and of course, by Murphy's Law, I broke a stud there because the nut was completely rusted.

Try all em mom n pop mechanics too... never know, might gain a contact for future use too...

You could just have em cut the y-pipe off and drive home with open headers, must faster and less trouble...

Yes, look for some local owned shops that would be willing to do it. I had to have mine put in by a shop because it was so rusted. They had to cut apart my stock Y just to get it out.

There are plenty of shops in Chicago that can do it for less than $75. DaveSz and I would do it, but the rusted bolts worry us a lil. More than likely we break and replace them with new ones.

Each bank, both pipes comming off each of the cylinders, are different lengths before meeting at the Y. I hear that the equal length sounds better...

theres a place in algonquin that does good work, they do catbacks on most cars for like 60bucks even duals. i dont think it would be any more for a y-pipe. for some reason i cant rem the name its the muffler place by the true value right off rt62 between rt31 and rt25. thats where im going to get my headers doen at. they work fast and know theyre stuff.

update...
went to a goodyear...told me bolts rusted and either have to replace cat or drill holes for the bolts. quoted me $450 if bolts dont break at exhaust manifold, $530 if they do this is including new cat and all hardware.
Im about to go to this one place in carpentersville that does custom exhausts....these ppl should know what theyre doing so well see what happens.

That's a joke...

Btw, have you tried posting a thread in the regional forums to see if anyone knows of a place or can hook you up? Hectorc posted up top that there are places, you should ask him for details.
