Red, Red Clears 56K not so much....*edit* day pic at bottom

Hey guys, I thought I would put these up to give people an idea of what this looks like on a '97-'99. I haven't really ever wanted the red/clears but I was in the Hobby store today (things we do for our loved ones) picking up yarn and I came across this Testors Candy Apple red transparent paint. I have heard of the '95-'96rs using this for the "all reds" and I had some time to kill this evening so I gave it a try.

I am pretty satisfied with the results. Keep in mind these are night shots and the relector makes the top look really light. The outer tails are simply red, they match up really well.

Again, I don't think I have "invented" anything, I just wanted to give people an idea of what they looked like. I can post some day shots in the next few days if anyone wants them.

Looks good, I'm kind of tired of seeing the same old red/clears on the 97-99, just doesn't stand out so much since almost every person on the .org has them. But who knows, maybe what you did might become a new trend amongst 97-99 owners.

I've always wondered what that would look like. Turned out nicely...post some day shots if you can so we get a better idea of what it looks like. Very different since I'm so used to seeing some other color there!

i think it looks good. 97-99 owners have that little piece of red next to the bottom outter corner of their tail light anyway.
i have this set up on my 95 max, and i wont change until i find a good deal on clear outters.
you got a clean maxima. thumbs up

you should open them up and paint the amber piece only.

eh. I dont really like it, I think it looks better on 95/96 tails, then again I think 95/96 tails look better over all vs., the 97+ tails. You did do a good job on it, I just dont care for it.

I have always like the 95-96 tails more than the 97-99 red/clear or just OEM. The 95-96 just seem to contour the body better than the 97-99 and look better on the Maximas body.

I agree with the previous couple of posts... you did a nice job, I'd just prefer it on a '95-'96. It looks weird with that little clear lense on the bottom.

You have 95/96 tails...so far this is the first person I've seen do this on 97+ lights and that's what makes it so interesting.

Props for trying it out, however I'm not feeling it either. It doesn't look bad, but IMO doesn't look as good as being able to see through the lens and into the color of the lights, which isn't available for the early 4G guys. I would be interested to see a DTM mod like this, where the background is painted red, or the lens is painted red or something. That way the inner part of the tail light is still visible, but you get the red color as well. Just a thought.

what part is mis-matched? alot of cars come factory red signals

Thanks for the comments guys, I wasn't really looking for a "oh d@mn s0n". Just kinna showing anyone who was curious what it would (does) look like.

Vlasic- is it the ridge on the trunkline that you like on the 95-96 or the tails because everytime i see that fake clear piece on the reverse lights it really dates them to me. Otherwise I like both rear ends.

Oh damn, owned by not reading every single post .
It does look like it's painted on the outside, which is why I didn't like it. The color looks very flat, which takes away from the "depth" that the stock tails create by allowing you to see inside the tail, through the clear outer shell.

Last post in that thread '04 haha check out my join date....Hadn't seen those JSutter, they make the tails look huge.

BTW- They ARE painted on the outside, I thought you meant WHOLE outer.

*edit* this thread has gotten REAL 56K non-friendly

Oh, ok, so they are painted on the outside. So my opinion and suggestion in my previous post still kinda stands. They still don't look bad, but I think you might have something if you cooked your lights, and did the DTM mod with red instead.

That clear (backup) lense looks out of place now. If I had a 97-99, I'd put a gen 2 Altezza on there. But I still like my 95 red/clear the best. Good job on the painting part though.

Actually, the reason I like the 96 tails over the 97 tails is because they are half and half. On the 96, the bottom half of the light is the red, and the top half is clear or amber, buts its an equal seperation. On the 97's, like the top 3/4 of the light is red and then there is a little strip at the bottom. I dont really like that, I like the symmetry of the 96 tails more.
