easiest solution is probably to buy another bose headunit on ebay or our for sale forum. if you want a non-bose headunit, be sure to match the nonstandard ohms of the speakers. check out the audio forum for more info: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdispla...aysprune=&f=25
I shipped my dead bose deck to these guys http://www.carstereohelp.com/ and they paid me $50 for it, which paid for half of my 'new' ebay deck.
I like alpine
I love my alpine. Clean bass and output. Not too much boomy compared to pioneer. I opted for the alpine, when I did a head to head comparison is a compariable pioneer HU at the time.

im all about alpine. This years models are a little on the down side but if you can find the ones from like a year to 2 years ago they are sweet. They had a feature called I-personalize that let you switch between like over a 100 colors for the faceplate to be to match your car.
i have the pioneer fh-p5000mp. this is a nice double din unit that palys mp3/wma files and has a color changing illumination bar on the unit.

My thoughts would include ditching the Bose unit and replacing it with a Microvision TFT 7" screen and installing a single DIN DVD unit in the compartment above your ashtray. Using decent products, you can do this relatively cheap.

if you didn't have BOSe to begin with then you wouldn't need it at all. but if you did and have BOSE and hooked up a HU to it. It should of popped all speakers.

well i have bose speakers and they're playing great, in fact sound much better then they did with the stock player. ive had my new hu for about a year now and no problems. oh well, maybe my installer did something that i wasnt aware of when he put it in.

I am going to go this route but I want a headunit that will have all the goodies and play dvd. But I don't want to spend 500 dollars on one.
The bose speakers will not get too upset with the differnt head unit. I have a Kenwood KDC-MP828 head unit. I had the stock bose. The Kenwood made the stock bose speakers sound better. The treble gets a little confused sometimes, like "s" es. Not distortion, just messed up signal. That is what you get when you send an amplified signal to an amplifier. The head unit also has a built in G meter for accel, braking, and right/left cornering. 0.87 G on a left turn
is my best so far. Plus it is an easy way to calibrate the butt dyno.

I like the features it has on the Kenwood KDC-MP828. The G-meter thing caught my eyes. Sounds very fun. But is there such programs out there that you can install on the maxima, just like the R34 has it on there unit?
I owned the Pioneer Premier 860mp and an Alpine 9873, both very solid decks IMO. This year's alpines were a bit weak sauce in my opinion so I opted for the 860 when I sold the 9873. Alpine's are simple looking, great sounding decks. Pioneers are fancy looking, great sounding decks. When you dish out 300+ for either company the sound is amazing. I prefer pioneer because the animations keep me occupied at "times"....
the thing iwth aftermarket HU is that there all freakin colorful *** ****.. and so flashy .. ntohign is ever OEM loking.. jsut plain... and does dvd or antyhing
i cant stand liek red and blue and green colors all messing up thie interior..

And why would you want your HU to look OEM, thats fugly...
I know what homer is saying. That's why I won't buy one unless is solid red color (buttons and all not just the screen) or I can customize the color.
And being able to change the color of the face of it doesn't mean sh*t if the buttons stay neon green.

What do you think of the Panasonic CQ-C7301U? My parents got it for me for Christmas (yeah I peeked) http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...00000000005702

I'll bet you have absolutley NO statistical data to justify this statement. The only decent decks Pioneer makes are the Pioneer Premier decks, end of story.

and natty, the PAC converter for BOSE is not a neccessity, but it will sound like poo if you don't have it.

You beat me to it Dan. I would really like to know what FACTS he has to back up his statement.....
Why use an aftermarket that looks kinda stock? Well so it won't get stolen maybe. My Rockford Fosgate HU looks pretty boring, but it sounds great and has good features. Got the mp3 changer for it too, so it'll play mp3s for me. I like it. I got all my speakers behind the stock Bose grills, amps hidden under seats and in the trunk. Sure doesn't sound Bose though. :-)
