300zx Brake Upgrade Questions.

So I was getting all ready to do the 300zx BBK with Cobra Rotors this morning and went looking for a How2 just to be sure it wasn't more complicated than a simple brake job.
Semms that it is...

I want to be clear that I need to do the following things.

1) You have to cut dust shield completely off
2) You have to grind down your lower control arm.
3) You have to have your rotors milled down 3mm in radius by a machine shop?

And just to be clear....when they say "radius milled down 3mm" do they mean that the rotor needs to be 13" minus 6mm (diameter=radiusx2) round instead of 13" round?

Double check on that, it could've been a typo (radius milled down) instead of (diameter milled down).

PM Jeff92se or Matt93se...they should have the exact answer. Good luck Ian.

No milling! Why would I design the dimensions of the brackets to require the extra step with milling if I could just design that out from the beginning?

Milling is for 300z/J30/Q45 calipers w/ NO brackets and using the OEM Nissan 300z/J30/Q45 rotors. NOT the 13" Cobra rotors

And you have to get the conversion brake lines to use 300zx calipers. It's much more complicated than a normal brake job. Yes you have to do numbers 1 and most likely 2, I didn't do control arm grinding but it was very very close so i can see how some might have to.

ALready have the brake lines, rotors, pads, calipers, caliper paint, etc...

Maybe when I said "simple brake job" I was over-simplifying what I was thinking. I know it's more difficult than that - just wasn't sure of the truth to the things above. I'm glad I asked, because as Jeff says you don't need to mill down the rotors. <whew!>

I also decided to very slowly put on coats of caliper paint over 24 hour periods over the next week to make it look best. So I'll be actually doing this next weekend, not today as originally planned.

Hopefully this post will help someone else in the future because there was nothing in my searches indicating that you didn't have to mill for the 300zx Calipers with Cobra Rotors - only for the 300z Calipers with 300zx Rotors.
