Questions for B&M shifter owners

I am interested in getting a short shifter for my 98 Maxima: B&M part number 45087. According to the B&M catalog, this particular shifter includes a shift ****. My question is: did they include a **** because the stock one will no longer work? i.e. the thread and pitch is different between the stock and the B&M shifter, and thus you MUST use the supplied ****.

I would like to retain my stock ****, and if this is not possible with the B&M, then I would not go with it.

Also, please give a detailed review of the product. I have seen several B&M's in other cars and they like to rattle. Is this an issue on the Maxima?

Thanks in advance for the input.

The B&M application for our car uses the original (Maxima) thread pitch, so yes the OEM **** screws on. I believe the included **** is weighted, so it helps with shifting.

My stock shift **** didn't fit on my B&M...
I liked the B&M **** better either way, though...
I love my shifter!!! no noises, no rattles, only perfect shifting!

I have a 98 max SE and I can def say that the B&M does tend to rattle a tad, but there's a fix for this....I took apart my shifter and removed the shifter rod from the base......I applied Permetex black gasket maker to the area where the rod meets the brass collar and allowed that to cure to serve as a shock damper....I also applied the gasket maker to the ring that secures the rod in place.....afterwards, no more rattles!

oh. as for the ****, I'm not sure if that fits...I just ended up buying a sweet looking Sparco **** and fitted that onto the shaft....of course I had to drill into the shaft in order to make large enough dimples to accept the set screws that lock the **** in place. It's actually not that labor-intensive, and is completely worthwhile once you see the finished product

Thank you all for your input and impressions. I have not decided quite yet on what route to take, and since I just got this car, there are plenty of other things I would like to upgrade too. So this shifter upgrade may not be for a bit, even though I wanted to do some research now. If any one has more input to add, please do.

My B&M is all one piece...very solid, never rattles, and allows you to bang those gears baby.

I love my B&M! I wouldn't want to drive a maxima without one again. I prefer the **** that came with it as well, the weight makes shifting sweet. I haven't had any problems with rattle, not much more than my stock setup. The shifter makes driving a lot more comfortable and entertaining .

my B&M doesn't rattle at all. i love the way the sts feels, whenever i drive a regular manual it feels like i'm rowing a boat. you dont realize how short it is until you drive another car. the stock **** will fit, but the one that comes with it is weighted and works well. i like it better than stock, but now that its cold the shifter feels like im holding ice, so i put the leather shifter back on from my old 300zx. it's a worthwhile upgrade... i know i'm not adding anything new, just throwing in my $.02
