AFTERMARKET clutch feel - Thread of all Threads

As i said weeks ago, i'm due for a new clutch thanks to a sh*tty pedal feel. I want to go aftermarket (something stage 1, stage II tops) but worry about pedal feel. I want to be as soft as clutch, wouldnt mind softer. I figure the best way to get feedback would be through a poll. i did research and no polls have been made on this topic, and i think this is a big topic that many would like input on when in the market for a new clutch since there are so many options. Top 4 most popular brands seem to be ACT, Exedy, SPEC, and Clutchnet...or is that clutch masters? in any event, please participate in the poll and leave feedback if u can, thanks.

also, if u can show your list of mods and small feedback on if u would recommend. I wanted to seperate between stages, but i felt stage II's which felt better than my stock so i feel putting them in the same category should still give a somewhat accurate survey.

my act is just a tad stiffer than stock, exactly how i wanted it, i though the stocker was too soft. i dotn have any real poweraddign mods yet, but plan on it in time. i know my cluthc will be able to handle it.

i see, thanks for the feedback ColdSho. I remember my ACT was harder than stock on my 4th gen, but wasnt sure if it was just me (unproper line bleed) or if it was the clutch. I'm waiting to see people's feedback on the exedy....

I have a Spec stage II... The pedal feels softer than NCSU_MAX's stock clutch....
Either way I LOVE my clutch... I can chirp third any day I want, but it's still an incredible smooth shifting clutch.....

Please....let's get some more feedback here. My car has a clutch that was replaced by Speedy Transmission before I bought it....and it is a freaking lump of crap. SO....instead of selling my car I am going to fix it up. 1st job is to fix the clutch. Let's get some more feedback here!

yea i had a spec stage II on my 4th gen as well, pedal feel was pretty good, wouldnt say softer than stock, but the thing ihated about it was the massive chatter i got slowly coming out of first gear. I dont think i had my flywheel resurfaced when that happened (my fault for springing clutch install up on installer while doing engine swap). I'm guessing thats the culprit, but i hear others have chatter issues as well, which in due time to away when enough miles are on the clutch but i wnat to stay away from that. Driveability/Pedal feel comes before anything else, thats why i'm tempted to just go stock again even though this is a great opportunity to tackle a mod that i would have to change when i'm ready to push some descent power....

i hate these type of decisions, dont have to take a chance but in order to make my chance as successful as possible, i need as much feedback from everyone.

Spec stage I i hear a few bad things about, everyone says to skip straight to stage III cause of the material difference....and i'm dissappointed to see someone say exedy is stiffer than stock....i wish the voters could post a small comment so we can bother u for more info

Clutchnet Yellow PP + organic disc = stock pedal feel AND it holds all the power I'm making (~260 wheel lb-ft torque). Perfect for a pure street car. Go with their 6-puck sprung hub if you plan on doing any track runs.

I have a South Bend clutch in my 90 Supra and it is softer than stock. I love it. Give them a call, they might offer something.

I believe that the way the clutch feels is dependent on the pressure plate you have since the TOB is connected to the clutch fork which pivots on the fins of the PP.

I chose the spec stage 3 pp since its relatively smooth and firm without a sloppy springy type of feel. I didn't want the stage 3, 6 puck clutch that came along with it so I bought the AP Racing clutch which is a simple organic full disk but has 330 ft/lbs rating

how do u like that AP racing clutch? i have their rotors, they make an amazing product. Also how much, how is clutch feel? organic clutch so i'm guessing no chatter?

Don't know how this got bumped. Sorry I never replied, I never saw your post.

The AP clutch is very nice. There is a very slight hum-chatter noise if I slip it in the early morning (same as the stock clutch). It goes away after a few shifts. I certainly can't complain about a 300+ ft-lb rating on a organic disk
