Another KS Question

I had the KS code come up and went ot the Nissan Dealer next to me and the parts guy said multiple times that is just comes up and not to worry about it. Instead of arguing with the guy I need a good place to find a knock sensor. Thank for the help.

I threw a right o2 sensor code about 5 months ago. Replaced it and just had the same one go bad. I take the 5 month old part back where I got it and the cashier goes on to tell me that since I have a KS code showing up that it is killing my o2 sensor by not properly retarding or pre-igniting during normal operation. This in turn causes unburned fuel in my exhaust to cause my o2 sensor to go bad pre maturely.

Thinking about that, I say to my self, he may have a point. But then I realize that if that were the case, my left o2 sensor would have gone bad well before i had gone through the second right sensor.

Has anyone every heard of anything like this? Is it possibly true? Or am I just getting a shload from an idiot that does not want to give me my money back?

And yes, I know... the o2 sensor that I used to replace the original was NOT OEM. Flame away if you must.

Thanks in advance.

i think that's bull. if the KS is bad then the car automatically retards the timing. when the KS is bad it signals the ECU as if the car is knocking all the time. then the ECU retards the timing and leans out the mixture. knocking happens when fuel detonates prematurely. apart from retarding the timing the ECU also leans out the mixture, so there should be very little if any unburnt fuel.

this is all from memory, so i may be wrong. take a look in the stickies and that should prove me right......... or maybe wrong.

either way, i think the stealership is BS-ing so they don't have to replace the part or refund your money. you should still replace the KS, though. you'll love the results!

I bought my OEM KS from Pinnacle Nissan for $89 (they had a sale on their web site).

Can I say, pain in the a$$ to replace. You need lots of patience.

I went out and bought a universal joint for my socket set, and used that and a long extention bar to reach down and undo the bolt.

Since I could not position the sensor and bolt using the wire as a lead (as posted somewhere else on the ORG) I just positioned the sensor with a long extention bar, then took double-sided tape, wrapped the bolt head with hit, and stuck it to the inside of the 12mm socket. Worded sweet, and on one try.

Oh, and another keep tool, heavy magnet to pick up the bolt when you drop it in the engine bank. I can't tell you how many times I had to fish that bolt out of there before my dad came up with the double-sided tape idea. Silly me taped magnets to the socket, but I couldn't let go of the bolt, or keep the sensor from spinning with the bolt and magnets !
