NEW BEST ! Its about dang time !

Wow, it sure did take a long, long time to break my old best ! Finally landed a 2.1 60 foot that turn tides and sent 14.16 packing ! WOOT !

New Mods: New K&N Xtreme air filter, and new NGK Platinum plugs
(OEM)
Mods List: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/341792/1

Thoughts: Just blown away really, had seen some promising runs from the chariot before just couldnt get my 60 foot down. But today I had that one run and did everything just right, and punished 14.16 !

video: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=447381

Will throw up some videos in this thread soon, im beat, burnt and happy as hail ! So close to 13.9 but so far away !! LOL !

Congrats man! Just think what that next "little" mod will do for you..

Hey if you're here go on AIM... I wanna know what else you took off the car to lose weight and what tires you ran.. (DR's on yet?)

When I talked to K a couple days ago she mentioned you were out in the garage stripping the Chariot for the races. lol

Hope you had a good Christmas.

Kinda reminds me of when I went 15.003 stock. Doesn't it **** you off when you're single digit THOUSANTHS off?

Awesome time. I believe you don't even have a VI. Is this a record? 3.0 without a VI on street tires going 14 flat is excellent, and unheard of to me. Neal's best street tire time (13.82) is less than .2 off.

Once you put that 00VI on, things could get interesting

congrats ceaser! i'm really liking that 60ft! anyway quick question...

why is the timeslip results are in SAE? I know it's kinda stupid...but I remember awhile back you posted a vid of your dyno and it read in metric....I would think the tracks over there would read in metric too?

yeah that is crazy, the new zealand drag strips are just now bringing in new systems from the states. i had a good laugh at that though, everyone here is like mph ? when i should be looking at kilometers wondering what the heck it means, so yeah this track which is actually an airstrip just got the timing system this season. and i know mph, lol !

the new track im going to jan 2, is brand new, state of the art, with scoreboards, full track prep and put together very well, it will be the first race, only thing that has me worried is that is is 1333 feet above sea level. but it will be interesting to see how these tires do there ?

it took me around 25 passes to get a 2.18 ? i knew when it happened it appeared i would beat my pb but just needed the launch/proof. Back in the states 2.12 came easy and i miss those days, 2.18 today was close to some sort of minor miracle. on all the other runs:

Todays Runs

14.151@98.41 mph -- 2.21 60 ft
14.001@99.52 mph -- 2.18 60 ft
14.175@98.91 mph -- 2.22 60 ft
14.142@98.40 mph -- 2.21 60 ft

i couldnt hardly ask for a better day of racing, i always love consistency and that is something that until this weekend i didnt have at this dragstrip and the dang pro tree continues to punish me, lol !

might get some videos up later, of todays and yesterdays races, i ran 14.2 every run yesterday. but i fought vtec all day long today, surprising how some of these 1.6l and 1.8l cars are just as fast and faster than the times im running.

neal the faster i get, the more i sit and shake my head thinking, dang neal's old car sure was fast. i still hate to this day that as for as i know that car is history. i sat today and checked out the timeslip and thought, 13.4 ? that is light years away from 14.0. but hey im very happy, and it was weight that made the difference. at saturdays qualifying i looked at alot of the cars i had to race and all of them were completly empty, so i sat up most of the night taking weight off the car and it paid off. tommorow i will drive over to the weigh station, and have them weigh the car in race trim and then look over the timeslips to make some since of it. i was also racing with 1/8th tank of gas which is my latest thing ! lol !

hahaha you still didn't get a 13... just think chris, if you would have done 1lb of weight reduction to yourself, you would have been in the 13's or maybe it's because the chariot is a piece of crap

ok just got back from weighing the car, i could pay 10 dollars to get a slip or the lady said she would do it for free but i wouldnt get a print out.

The car weighs 1220 kgs, which didnt mean much to me, went home and did the conversion.

97 Nissan Maxima SE
Best 1/4 Mile Time: 14.00@99.5 MPH

Car Weight: 2689 lbs.
Car/driver: 2901 lbs.

Thoughts opinions, im a bit behind on what the car weighs stock, and what some of the other guys have gotten there car weight down to. Everything was exactly the same as race day, even the same amount of gas.

2689 is one light maxima you got there. Probably over 300 pounds less than what a stock 97 SE should weight, especially with your heavier steel bumpers.

It seems so easy to get maximas light. I can't think of any other midsize sedan that is so light on its feet.

jclaw front and back bumper are in the garage. on my 97 model rear was 37 lbs, front was 24 lbs.

37 + 24 = 61 lbs

that may make the overall weight make more sense now. but the car stays parked like this until race day jan 2nd, then will put them back on for daily driving. just want to be careful and keep it off the road.

You could get 95 Aluminum bumpers. I kept my stock 95 rear bumper support and removed the front one.

j the front was a royal pain to get off compared to the rear with sarona bumper, the rear took about 15 minutes to unscrew the rear tailights with an 8mm socket wrench and extension.

unscrew the 3 small screws on each side under the tailights and two small screws connecting the sarona rear on each side.

once thats done you only have to pull out the trunk carpet and pop up those two rubber pieces, two on each side and take those off with a 14mm socket. comes right off, then assemble.

with a stock rear bumper im not sure what is involved, but if someone was going after their best et, thats a quick 37 lbs off a 97 model.

Love that timeslip, especially where it shows the 9mph tailwind. Congrats on the new record

Question - how many keys on your keyring? If it's more than just one, there's your 13.99 difference! Still, pretty good for a 14.00 dial in.

6'4" 212 lbs, I need someone like bobby (h2kpinkpanther) to race the car down the track, easy .1 faster , as for as weight reduction, to get my 97 fully loaded SE down to this weight is pretty extreme. Someone like dave b would never take such drastic measures, lol !

When looking inside the car everything is out but:
Drivers seat (leather / powered ) 46 lbs
Center Console around 7 lbs
All door panels are still in the car 12 lbs or 3 lbs each

--trunk = nothing in it

What are the best things to take out?
passenger seat: 40 lbs
Back Seat: 33 lbs
Spare 28 lbs
rear bumper 38 lbs
front bumper 24 lbs + 3 lbs for fog lights 27 lbs
and race with 1/8th tank of gas
carpet: 17 lbs (not on best things to take out list)

I have done a few interior swaps and pulled things out and put it back in 100 times now. seats are simple, rear bumper is simple with sarona rear, front bumper was tough. again this kinda stuff is beyond just removing spare and a seat, i can get my interior back together and looking nice, but once you start pulling all this stuff out it will never be mint again, so if you are in love with your interior its not the kinda thing you would do. just stick with seats and spare, its simple and with leather passenger, rear seats, and spare your darn close to a .1 off.

The rest of my weight reduction was replacing stock parts with aftermarket ones example aftermarket ypipe is lighter than stock, headers are lighter than stock, my wheels/tires combo are lighter than stock. will list some things below.

I took a hammer and a big flat head screw driver to the sound deadening, I managed to get every single bit out of the car which added up to 24 lbs. With the carpet and mats in the car, the road noise isnt bad at all to me, but again thats a personal thing, if you dont have carpet in the car it is loud and you hear every stone, grain of sand, water, and wheel noise. Exhaust sure sounds good racing in the car though !

Really what inspired me to go as far as i could was looking at the all motor class i was up against. all are stripped with racing seat and thats it. i have one of my old corbeau seats coming over from the states in a few months (thanks peter) if you want a good laugh look at a stripped maxima with powered leather seat in the car, what a joke ! Also forgot to mention I have no radio, no speakers , no antenna. one of those vafc2 thingys will look good for a head unit soon though! lol

here are some notes i kept up with in the past on things i swapped out:
The Chariot Weight Reduction Diary

* Corbeau Clubman Seats (replaced stock) - 45 lbs / 20 kgs
* Lighter rim/tire combo replaced stock - 32 lbs / 15 kgs (320 lb / 145 kg off chassis)
* Back Seat (leather) - 33 lbs
* Remove spare - 28lbs / 13 kgs
* Lightweight battery (replace stock) - 20 lbs / 9 kgs
* Carbon Fiber hood - 17 lbs (redlinemax cf hood) dont have this anymore
* Added aftermarket ypipe - 15lbs / 7 kgs
* Bose speakers (all 4) - 12 lbs / 5 kgs
* Stock seat belts - 12 lbs / 5 kgs
* Floor mats - 9 lbs / 4 kgs
* Replace stock manifold with headers - 9 lbs / 4 kgs
* Kenwood receiver (remove head unit) - 8 lbs / 4 kgs
* Aftermarket Catback - 7 lbs
* Gutting trunk (cardboard,carpet, everything) - 6lbs
* Removed metal plate behind backseat - 6 lbs
* Rear door panels - 6 lbs
* Jack and metal holder - 5 lbs
* Antenna - 4.5 lbs
* Replaced cat conv w/ test pipe - 4 lbs
* Rear deck 4 lbs / 1.8 kgs
* Underdrive Pulley - 3 lbs / 1.3 kgs
* Owners manual -1 lbs / 0.4 kgs
* Interior Carpet - 17 lbs / 8 kgs

Cattman Catback
Midpipe/B Section: 18 lbs.
Muffler: 15 lbs.
Total: 33 lbs./15 kgs.

Warpspeed Performance & Magnaflow Muffler
Warpspeed B Pipe: 23 lbs.
Magnaflow 5x8 Muffler: 14 lbs.
Total: 37 lbs./17 kgs.

Corbeau Clubman Seats (replaced stock) - 45 lbs / 20 kgs

the corbeau clubman seat & bracket is around 20 lbs lighter than my leather drivers seat, since im only using one seat now, that will cut the weight down even more.

Did all this pay off, well yeah. Out of the 3 all motor events held at the drag strip I have finished 3rd, 1st and 1st ! Not bad for a Nissan Maxima. for giggles have a look here: http://nzhondas.com/phpBB2/3-vtu4678...r=asc&start=50

photo of the maxima with weight reduction, notice sunroof shield is gone, and note the wheel gap, lol ! i have eibach prokit springs and kyb agx shocks, everyone says i should lower the car and i say it is already ?

also with the lightweight racing battery and frankencar midpipe setup, i have been removing the clearance light. getting some cool air coming into the engine. while this isnt making much of a difference im convinced its better than the old injen intake setup i used to have, the injen piping would be as hot as the upper intake manifold, the filter area and midpipe are never hot and cold to the touch this way, but this could be the case with the frankencar setup without clearance light removed.

thats another thing different about NZ with all motor cars is that everyone removes their headlight. with all the hondas i have seen their aftermarket air filter sits right behind the headlight, so better setup than i have, and debatable on how much better it is, but couldnt hurt
