6th Gen Air Filters?

What are the choices out there if you are using the stock air box? I bought a Fram filter today and it went in the box, but the shape of the top of the filter was rounded instead of flattened like the Nissan filter, so it didn't fit (it was going to require a TON of force to work).

I also have K&N Drop in, WAY BETTER...than stock. Better Gas Milage. Buy 2, and get the recharge kit. Switch them out every once in a while.. or if you have the flow ($$) then just buy a new one when you can...

Injen Cold Air Intake...

J/K

Before I installed my CAI, K&N had by far the best air filter on the market for the Max...

I just bought a new nissan factory air filter from my dealer for $12 and it was identical to the original one I replaced with direct fit. However I did notice that after only 10k miles the original filter was disgustingly dirty. Black sooty looking like it had been in there for 100k miles or something. Has anyone else seen this after 10k?

Check ebay I got mine for 29.95. I have dropped them in every car I have owned. Just don't be fooled by the claimed horsepower gains. Throttle response is a little better. The mileage increases slightly. The best thing about them is they last for a long time if you clean them on the regular. They will save you money in the long run because you just clean them and go. K&N also says it performs better once it gets dirty. The jury is out on that one but the clean kit does come with oil which catches dust maybe there is some truth to that.

How often do you clean the K&N? I bought the recharge kit and it says to clean every 50K miles, that seems like a long time. I have about 10K on the filter and I want to clean it now.

so clean it there is no real time that it has to be done i use to clean mine about every 3 to 5 months depending on conditions. if its real dusty where you are. just take it out and take a look at it but unlike a regular filter when it looks dirty its still out performing any factory filter you could ever have lol

Is there a certain product number for the drop in k&n filter? I know there are several different kinds but which drop in is it?

I also have a K&N drop in. They are the best out there and you don't ever have to replace it. Seems like the best buy to me. As far as cleaning it, just take a look at it once in awhile and see if it needs it. Or do it every 15K or something. Really, it takes a LONG time before it really needs to be cleaned.

I went to the K&N web site and looked up a filter for the '05 Maxima. Here's the results:

Air Filter: PN# 33-2031-2 URL

Oil Filter: PN# HP-1008 URL

Anyone have experience with K&N's oil filters? Are they worth the extra money?

Check out the Fluids and Lubricants forum on this site. Lots of good stuff in there about oil and filters.
