My AC Vents are hard to adjust
My AC Vents are hard to adjust
Is this just with my car, or is this a normal thing?
Every one of my AC vents in the dash are hard to adjust by the little wheel under the vent. The wheel is supposed to close the vent or let you adjust the left or right deflection of the air. Each one of my vents feel stuck and are hard to move. I can't make precise adjustments at all. I try to aim them a little bit and they don't move. Then they break free and they're pointing at Mexico. What the heck?!

They operate like they were made in Mexico too, always have....cheapest feeling vent mechanism ive ever used for sure. They are not precise, you have to force them until they give and then they usually end up at the extreme opposite.
I think mine are tense also. But, I cheat....I use the 'auto' setting for my temp settings. They usually redirect air either through the top by the windshield or at my feet. It takes a little longer to feel the effects, but I am not messing around with our American-made vents!

Um our vents were made in Mexico.
No one looked at the parts origin on the windshield??? Some from Japan, rest from Mexico. Unless that changes every year... some may be US.
regardless, my vents move just fine. You do know that all the way to one side, they "latch" to close the vent. May feel like it's getting stuck, but that's the design.

Wow, this board wants high accuracy in each message! Ok, so the car is assembled in Smyrna, Tenessee. I assumed that's what 4MySwee is referring to. I actually didn't get the parts origin list! I bought a demo unit, and some of those goodies were missing. I was curious about the parts list, so now I know! Thanks!
The vents have that icon that I understood mean close on the one side. But that's not the problem. They're not latched shut, and I can see the airflow directional devices (is the proper word diffuser or vein?) almost pointing at me. If I try to move them from there it takes more than a reasonable amount of force to initiate the move, the wheel will actually turn, but the vent stays stuck in a direction. And they end up flicking to the side when force causes them to break free from their stuck position. It's like they put a 10mm peg in a 7mm hole and the diffusers bind. I think the plastic pivot for the vents actually twists before the vents move.
NismoMax80, I'm glad to hear that yours are working properly. That gives me some hope. I'm taking my car in for service this weekend and I'll talk to the service manager about the vents. Perhaps he can replace them or lubricate them, or what ever is necessary.

I truly appreciate many who are curious, are DIYers, etc. But some things, I feel "Just call the dealer and use your warranty."
If I ran a dealership, I'd require all my Techs and service department to read the Org an hour a day.
So after ya take it in, please update us on this urgent crisis... j/k Hope it works out.

When you've taken you dash apart as many times as I have, you'll see if you don't put the vents and LCD screen in the bracket fully seated and then drop as one unit into the dash you will have this problem.
The most common mistake is you put the vents into the dash slots and then place the LCD frame over causing the dials to be pushed to far in and less ease of turning.
