Does anyone get a hard shift between 1st and 2nd on his 2k2-2k3?

Lately in the past 2-3 weeks I have noticed a slow delayed shift between 1st and 2nd followed by a harsh kick into 2nd.

Doesnt matter if its in 2 or D it still does that, when I drive slow not passing the 2.5k rpm in 1st it shifts alright into 2nd but when I pass 2.5k around 3k rpm it kicks in 2nd pretty hard ruining the trannsmission.

There is no TSB or anything for the 02-03 so I dont know what to do now, I would have got the VB done in maximum tuning in NY but Jeff told me that its most likely not gonna solve the problem just delay it for a little bit.

Could it be that my tranny is dieing already? this is most likely the answer

TCM/VB TSB.

Mine was doing the same. Got a VB mod and hasn't returned.

I've experienced similar characteristics in my 02 Maxima for the past couple of years, when the tranny is cold. However, it seems to shift fine once warmed up.

Please provide more information when you post. How many miles are on the car? Have you ever changed the transmission fluid? If so, how often and with what kind of fluid?

How do you know it's ruining the transmission? Actually, shifting hard can make for less wear on the transmission because the clutches don't slip to provide that extra comfort. That's one of the added benefits of a shift kit/ Valve Body mod.

I experienced this as well. Only after a dead stop though, and only when I move off the line at a regular speed. I had an 88 Maxima before my new one and I hope this is not an early sign of transmission failure.

It could be many things. For starters how many miles do you have? Is there a SES light on? These trannies are not very durable once you start to push them especially when they get hot, believe me i have had many problems. My tranny once again in the morning when the fluid is cold the tranny will have a delayed 1-2 and if pushed hard will slip and then engage hard into 2nd. 1.) your tranny like mine is going time to go to Nissan. 2.) Your resistor itself is not functioning. 3.) the transmission control module is not functioning properly. 4.) The valve body solenoid is damaged. 5.) who knows, check your tranny fluid if its dirty or smells even slightly smells burnt. Have it flushed not drained and then take it to Nissan and throw a fit like a kid at TOYS-R-US. Make sure not to overfill you will have a tough time at the dealer. You probably will not get hassled being that February and March are one of the slowest months in the car business so shops are looking for all the work they can get. So you'll find me at the dealership every week
