Ckin' out shocks and struts on the "bay."

Called the local Autozone and they said I have to purchase left and right struts, costing 60 for the left and 70 for the right and the rear shocks were 51.00 a piece.

As I was shopping around I noticed a few on Ebay. KYB and Tokico. They are a bit pricey but are they worth the ride for the dollar? WOuld like to lower my max by an inch, then would require new springs. Need some help guys and gals.

lowering your car will require new struts and springs.

autozone struts will be very soft and would be a bad decision to pair with aftermarket springs.

 

As things go, what do you recommend? Would like to have a smooth ride, not floaty and like to corner on rails.

 

KYB GR-2 and Tokico HP ("Blue") shocks/struts are good for stock springs. They will make your ride slightly firmer but much more controlled, and will improve your handling.

Tokico HPs are acceptable for use with lowering springs, but you'd be MUCH better off with Tokico Illuminas if you're gonna lower your car.

And of course, if possible, try to do the springs and the shocks at the same time to keep labor costs down.

 

The Tokico illuminas, are great. So if paired with some good quality springs, you will drop your car and improve all of the handling characteristics.

 

hey man what ever you do DONT get the KYB GR-2 they SUCK!!!!.... im never gonna make that mistake again... just terrible.. my car feels like a shopping card over bumps.... get ur self some tokico illumnias with the h&r springs.. best bang for the buck

 

Have Tokico Blues and Progress Springs Front:1.5" Rear:1.3". If I had more $$ at the time would have got the Illuminas. Though I can't complain about the set up I have at this time. Handles good and doesn't rattle the fillings out of your head.
