ok..my car is currently sidelined w/ a fried tranny..i figured here is my chance to the 5spd swap i have been wanting to do since the first week of my purchase three years ago..ok..so i spoke to my mechanic..he tells me that i can to the swap but the ecu will have a SES light..obviously b/c its looking for the tranny..he tells me that if i were to swap out the ecu to a manual ecu the car wouldnt go past 3k rpm..ne body please help me i need an answer a.s.a.p.

i know that people have done it..but can they pass emissions...in ny you cant pass emmissions if you have a ses light..according to my mechanic the cars he swapped w/ the full ecu reprogrammed by nissan..the car still doesnt run properly and end up going back to the auto ecu..

people have failed because in most states you cant pass with an SES even if it still passes all the rest. if you get the new ECU it will, but some states will stop you as soon as they see that SES.

 

i wasn't talking about the auto ecu in a 5 spd manual..

 

well this isnt a rumor...i heard this from numerous ny guys who have completed the swap...and i go to maximum tuning..a renown maxima expert in the ny area...

 

I don't understand. We're trying to provide you with the information you need to answer your question and rebut your previous findings. If you trust this guy so much then don't do the swap.
