What do you guys use? Do you brush on or spray on? What is more effective?
I wanted to spray so that i dont leave brush marks but that might be messy

Just spend the $40 for the G2 System. It's brush on but dries without marks and it high gloss etc... It's made especially for brake calipers.

Yes, G2 is the best.

Just don't rush it (if applying a second coat). You'll get runs

 

G2 is the shiznet, brush it on and leaves no marks.

 

LOL - I've painted my calipers with 3 coats of silver el Cheapo 4.99$ Canadian tire spray paint and it hasn't rusted in over a year.

 

i painted black like 3 years ago...now it already fade out....

btw i used dupli-color

 

never even heard of this "brush on" style of painting calipers. I will look into it.

 

dupli color is garbage. my friend got the brush on kit from pepboys for 15 bux and was makin fun of how i spend 30 bux on my G2 for the same results. needless to say his looks like a faded red with no shinne to it and my g2 glows !

^ Thats the stuff. Just remember your paint job is only as good as your prep work. Make sure to really clean those calipers well before painting.

It says you can paint the calipers with them still mounted. Is that what most you have done. My calipers are all rusted and look horrible. This is a must for me. I would have never thought of brush on so this is great to know.

Does anyone have pics of their calipers painted? I will mostly likely just go with either silver or black but would consider red but I dont want it to look ricey. Would love to see some red calipers on a 5.5 if anyone has a pic.

 

Red will really stand out, I would say do black or silver with a silver car. Just my .02

 

I tend to agree. I'm not sure I want to call too much attention to the tiny rear calipers anyways.

You can do it that way, but I prefered to remove mine so I could paint the entire caliper.

 

G2 Silver on my stock calipers



G2 Silver & Black on some 300z calipers that I rebuilt.





After doing the black lettering I finished up with some high temp engine clear coat. Made them look simply amazing. A week after painting them with the clear my friend came over and asked if the paint was still wet. I highly suggest the high temp clear if you can find some. IIRC Dupicolor makes it.

Any word on which "high temp clear coat" is preferred by the others around here?

 

I take it from dubbya's post that high temp clear is hard to find. If you find some it should work well regardless of the brand. Duplicolor should have a high temp clear.

I guess 2-4 coats of clear and you'll have a nice glossy look.
Calipers look good! Silver and black, I've never seen that combination before but I like very much!

 

i used G2 on my 300zx calipers. They still have a great shine after 6 months.

 

Now thats what I'm talking about. The Bronze brakes, are just sexy.

Gold and Black Lettering would sick.

 

The dupicolor high temp clear was found at either Autozone or Pep Boys. Im pretty sure it was Autozone.

 

I went to walmart and bought some caliper and it turned out fine. I woundnt spend $40 for something I can get for 6. But thats just me.

 

I used G2 gold on my 6th gen calipers. No pics until my car is no longer filthy though

 

Well I can tell you that Epoxy based paints are far superior to most other paint when it comes to durability.

I used the VHT spray and clearcoat and it looks great. Do yourself a favor and take the calipers apart and clean them. Pick a nice dry, warm day and about 8-10 hours. I started in the morning and put them back on just before dark. I did 3-4 coats of red and 3-4 coats of clear and they still great after 8 months. The VHT is $8 per can.

i made the same mistake in the past i just sprayed big clobs of paint onto a flat plastic sheet and used a brush and painted my calipers turned out pretty good and i didn't waste the paint, just make sure after each appilcation u place the brush in water.
