odd question about rear bench

How much does the rear bench weigh? Has anyone ever taken them out to gain a couple hp to the wheels?

It weighs almost nothing. Think about a couch cushion. It weighs about the same. It does come out very easily though. I'd bet your floor mats probably weigh about the same.

When I go to the track I remove my spare, jack and bag of tools I carry everywhere. I also make sure I only have a few gallons of gas.

the bench is pretty light but if you remove the two top portions of the seat and the two side pieces then it adds up. you can also remove the metal brackets supporting the bench if you want it all to add up. i would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-40lbs for all that i mentioned.

removing weight does not increase WHP......the only way to do that is to either increase the power of the engine or increase the efficiency of the drivetrain.

FTW...

whp is not increased by losing weight. your car will have the same power. by removing it, you will gain (im guessing 3lbs for the seat) about .003s in the quarter...most people vary more than that without changing anything. you wont notice a difference.

Strip the car of all loose items before you take out a seat!

I didnt mean increase hp in that manner, i may be new but I don't think that it actually adds hp. I just ment that it allows the engine to utilize more power to the wheels because it doesn't have to accelerate as much weight. (thank you physics class)

seriously lol. the spare is heavy. those seats are light, like foam or something. i swear its like 2 pounds.

...my stock jack broke and my car jumped like 6 inches from the air to the ground ... good thing my wheels were still on!
