98 SE muffler shot , rear brake noise.

My stock muffler is ready to go, and looks even worse, usual rusty mess. I want to keep it quiet, everything is stock. What should I do, stay with stock mufler, heard they were spendy. or find aftermarket replacement. Can you recommend some ? Is it possible to do a bolt on replacement given the right hangers are on the muffler ? saw the various clips but want to keep it stock.

Question 2: On backing up, and applying the brakes the rears are making a groan, it did this once before when nearly new but that was w/o applying the brakes, was fixed under wty. I believe the pads looked good when I switched over to winter tires last Dec.

if you want quiet for exhuast stick to stock, or take it to the muffler shop and ask for their price.

And for the groan noice from the back brakes, how often does that happen? like every time you back up? Need more info on that so taht we can help.

Our rear brakes can be loud, I wouldnt be surprised if they did that till your next pad change.

Stock exhaust is best, even better is a variable exhaust from the 5th gen.

Brakes

It's when I back up, and usual first time that day out of the garage. I could be parked too at work, and it would do it . Does the 5th gen fit with the bumper cutout okay. I would get one of those if I thought it would last a bit longer, this one started going about two years ago. It could be the Washington road de-icer. Another thing Maxima guys should be aware of, kind of off the subject here, is the front fenders can be clogged up with gunk and leaves etc down near where the piece of plastic trim or mudflaps are located. I think my car's drains are too small or clog easily there. I found a lot when putting mud flaps on the other day.
