Try it if you still have your 00 headlights then they are not that much money to replce if something goes wrong. It will look good on a black max, I think you should do it.

id say go for it, just make sure you use a flat black, not a glossy black. i love the way mine looks because it is flat black. the glossy black doesnt look oem, it looks overly-aftermarket, but it all depends what you want

Prop's to you, It was your car that inspired me to go your spoiler, skirt and painting the headlight housing route, the kit is on it's way and I'm working up the nerve to open my headlights, flat black? hmmm was thinking of Super black paint matching my car as I'm going to have the grill paint matched, but thanks for the inspiration!

Yes, and for 00' headlights you dont have to paint them. just rub off the chrome from the shroud. Its called the "AE" mod since 2001 AE maximas had those headlights from the factory. Search up how to do it, it is not that bad.

Please post pics when you are done. I am skeptical that you will get a good result.

This is an old mod, and tons of people have done this already and have gotten OEM-like results if not better. It's a vast improvement over the chrome, but it depends on the persons opinion of what looks good.

I prefer that, since they look great and very aggressive. I was going to do mine but my darn left headlight starting to get a bit yellowish, so I might just a pair of new AE headlights instead of getting it painted. It's less headache in my opinion

Re-finishing them gets rid of the "yellow" and the pitting from stones.

I was also ready to buy new headlights, I decided to give re-finishing a try and it came out great.

Re-finishing: Use 800grit, 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper and follow with PlastX to clear them up.

Thanks about 20 min per headlight and it makes a big difference.

yes, you should paint your headlights black, but listen to upstatemax and just rub the chrome off, all tho its PITA to rub the chrome off, it took me so long, i ****ed up my fingers doing it lol, but it did pay off at the end...and it looks a lot better when you rub the chrome off, than painting them, a lot more risk of getting the headlights messed up if you try to paint them....
check my cardomain site for some pics...
and my AE HEADLIGHTS ARE FOR SALE, ASKING 140 shipped, let me know if anyone interested ........
good luck man, and if you have any questions on how to do the mod, just search for the info, and you'll find a lot, or just pm me and i'll try my best to help you....
also check this site out
http://vqpower.com
it has some info on how to do it....

BIG tip, dont use water to rub off the chrome

use the PlastX to take it off, comes off twice as fast and it does not hurt the plastic under the chrome.

I told you about it.

I was using the water at first and it sucked, so I tried the PlastX on the bottom part that is not visable and it worked great.

thanks, imitation is the best form of flattery

and yeah, flat black i think is best because it gives you an OEM look. if you look at all the smoked OEM lights, like the new Alty, they are dull, not glossy. thats the look i was going for, OEMish. to each his own of course, but i think super black headlights on a superblack car will look weird, like racoon eyes or something...but you could prove me wrong

For those who did paint the headlights.

Did you paint it on top of the chrome or on top of the black plastic?? Which way is better?

Oh man, I wish I knew about PlastX before I performed this mod. It took me an hour a peice of rubbing per headlight. probably longer because I had to let my blisters cool down quite often. You will also work up quite a sweat just trying to pull the two halves apart. It is definately worth it though I might add. This was done on 2/26 and my fingers are still a little tender. Sorry, no pics just yet. Does anyone know a way to get that slight yellow tint off. I've seen how nasty this oxidation can get.

No, on 00-01 headlights the chrome rubs off and there is shinny black plastic under it. No need to paint it, unless you want flat black.

Do you have a write-up for it?

Edit: If you do not, here is one; http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2190617/3

Sorry! Allow me to rephrase the question. How do you do this mod to an 03? can't find the thread because I'm not allowed to search.

Oh by the way Upstate, I know I am new, but according to my count there are 36 posts in this thread. Not 8 trillion, and the only pictures in the thread are not 03 headlights. It isn't my fault the administartors won't let me run searches. I have much better things to do than spend my entire life reading every thread on this forum...
