Should I get a 4th Gen or 5th Gen? Biased opinions welcome
I've got a 3rd gen right now and I am thinking about selling it in about 6 months or so. I need a bit of info, maybe some pros and cons of the 4th gen and then I will probably post something like this in the 5th gen forun as well and as the samethings about the 5th gens too. I apologize if I have posted this here before in the past, but I can't remember
170 for the lose....stupid internet talk. Ok, I know very very little about both gens so I guess what is the difference between crank and wheel hp and what is 00VI? Something something variable intake? Also, what kind of mods can you do to up the power? I'm no noob to the forums so i'll search around as well
im split down the middle. i love the 4th gens and they have GREAT reliablility. you can drive one hard at 180K and not have to worry about breaking anything. they both are damn good looking cars to. id prolly go with the 5th just cause i like the interior better, even though the 4th is pretty damn nice to. im split.
It's really up to you bro. The only way I'd personally get a 5th gen. is if it were a 2002 and up, when they seriously improved it. If you could find a nice '98 - '99 that's what I'd go for.
4th Gen all the way baby.... Looks are definitely more aggressive. The 5th Gen looks nice too, but will cost you alot more $$$. My mom has a 5th Gen 2000 GLE and more $hit has gone wrong that POS with only 65k on it, than my 99 with 127k on it. My moms, all 6 infamous coils, front struts, stabilizer links, heater blower fan and power steering hose!!! 65k!!!! None of that $hit has gone on my 4th Gen!! Maybe it was made on a Friday or a Monday.
Listen, you want a sick a$$ ride?? Then get yourself a 4th gen that is in good shape and 5spd. Then do the biggest tune up ever imagined, check all the sensors, port polish the heads and the intake, put a complete exhaust, short ram intake, reprogram ecu, nice coil overs(if no potholes in your area), some nice big rims that u would like, a kit, red clear tails and some really dark tints. then you're set. Stay like that for a while, till it's too slow for you again, then u rebuild the motor, at the same time if u need body work you re-do everything needed, slap on a turbo and then sing to the turbo gods...hahaha

I like how u think
No but, I think the answer to ur question is totally based on the amount of money you have. If u got the money get the 5.5 6-speed, ull love it but might run into some repairs. If ur hurtin on cash the 4th gen might be more ur style, 99 SE-L's are hot

If you're looking for a biased opinion I think that the 4th Gens take it hands down in terms of looks, the 5th Gens will feel faster due to the 00VI, but at the same time will use more gas. My uncle has a 5th Gen and when I told him I was looking into maximas he strongly advised against it because he gets bad mileage on his. When I told him I get 23MPG he laughed at me, then looked on puzzled when he saw I was serious, then he cried and offered to trade cars.
I had to make the same decision before I bought my 99. Both generations are nice but I chose the 4th because its cheaper, has proven reliability, and I liked the simpler styling. I also like that its a smaller car. I would love to own a 5th gen at some point but the 4th gen was my top choice. Just wait for a low mileage one to show up that's in good shape and you'll be set for a long time. You'll save yourself some extra money for modding too
