These are the words that I heard with a Bang when I gave The mechanic a set of Xenon bulbs for the front and the fog lights. "Just use halogen, please". After taking a training class on lighting the mechanic mentioned that accroding to the wiring structure in the car and the materials used, the slow burning process starts on the wires and housing area even with bulbs at 55/65W rating. Well is this cheap wiring or What??
He mentioned three Y2K maximas that had came in the last month with burned wires and housings because of aftermarket bulbs.

Why is someone else putting in bulbs for you. Do you pump your own gas?

 

I hope this isn't true, I just bought $70 worth of PIAA bulbs for my 01 Max. Haven't even received them yet!

 

not just the Maximas but if you're using higher wattage bulbs than the stock ones, you will burn your wires and harnesses sooner or later...
it's not because we have cheap wires or anything...

 

As long as the bulbs are rated for 60/55 W nothing bad will happen. Usually on bulbs there are two numbers: the "looks like" rating and the true rating. If the true rating is 60/55W everything should be fine. The true power rating is usually stamped on the metal collar of the bulb.

 

My dealership also told me the same thing. They said due to "increased energy use" for the bulbs it will cause my wiring to short-circuit. I asked them if the new lights on the 2002 SE will be interchangeable with my 2001 SE and they said "NO" since the wiring will be different between the cars. Not sure if this is BS or what but thought I would chime in.

 

Stay with stock wattage and you'll be fine. People don't pay attention to the wattage, that's why their wires melted.

Hey i?maxx, I installed a pair of Xenon Crystal on my 2K1 20 th about 6 months ago and so far so good none of the describe problems occur, I bought the 60/55w and it is just fine so far. I also checked all the wiring and there is no sign of melting or what so ever.

My local dealership (Middletown Nissan in Middletown, CT) who are morons also said that every one who put hid/xenon look alikes has had wiring problems, i dunno I posted a thread earlier on this topic and everyone said I should be A-OK, hopefully they are right....

 

my xenons produce 100/90watt, but i think thats what its supposed to put out not actually use, cause those numbers seem too high, they never burned my wirring for my other cars i had

 

relay kit and run 1000w if you wanted to. Heck. just arc weld up there once you pop in the relays. one ounce of protection goes along way.

I think the problem is fatigue of the wires at a higher wattage (heat). I mean, the typical post is "I don't understand, I've been running 100W bulbs for 6 months then poof!" its rare to see the "help I'm blowing fuses".

 

Their putting them in because I PAID them to install the bulbs, WISE GUY!.

Ok everyone here listen....

I had these types of bulbs installed in my car, the blue looking ones. After about 2 months, i started to smell this rubber burning smell. I didn't realize what it was until one of my lights burned out. I thought that it was the cheap bulb like usual, but after i opened up the hood, i tried to take out that bulb. The bulb was stuck. I didn't realize why i couldn't get anything out, but found out that my whole housing had melted. The wires and the housing to the lights melted. I then check ed th other side and saw that it too had the same problem, but the light still worked. Since i go to school about hour and a half away it just so happend that on the drive home, my other light burnt out. I drove about 1 hour with foglights and sidemarkers. the worst. The warranty would not replace it becasue they knew i changed the bulbs. Instead, i bought some parts and rewired the housings and everything works properly again.

You ask, what bulbs i'm using right now? Ha, the same blue ones! Just waiting for these to melt again But i don't think it will melt. Hopefully.

 

If your ever in my area and need a light bulb to be changed ANYWHERE on your car, i'll only charge you 20 bucks! great deal. hope to see you soon

 

So will hyper white side markers, corners, turn signals, burn out your wirring and stuff too? or this only apply's to headlights? besides, who sells 60/55 watt xenons? those are hard to find unless you get those really cheesy bulbs right? i thought mine were cheesy enough haha, but i never had a problem with them on my previous cars.

 

So are these PIAA Super Plasma's (60/55) going melt the head lamp assembly on my Maxima or not?

The web site I bought them from (autobulbdepot.com) doesn't seem to think so.
