Noise coming from back of 2k during start-up...exhaust?

Doesn't happen all the time, but whenever I start up my car I hear a noise coming from the rear of my car, more on the right side, so Im thinking it has something to do with the exhaust...Sometimes when I start my car, I don't hear anything, then times I do hear it. Car runs fine though, and the noise only lasts about 5 seconds. Any idea what it could be? I'll probably take it into Nissan and see what they think, but just checking here first.

EDIT: Also, it seemed to have started like 2 months ago, so it's something new whatever it could be.

could be your exhaust hanger if it is a rattle/vibration noise. if you know someone at midas or some other exhaust place, they may hook you up for free...my guy did it for me. i have an extra rubber hanger if you need it.

if it's on startup the first thing that comes to mind is that you have an exhaust leak. It could be a pinhole or something slightly larger. I have to replace my muffler for the exact same reason, as when I had the car on the lift, I noticed that the flange where the muffler connects to the other pipe is all rusted, and need replacing.

Ok, Ill see about replacing my muffler soon. Is it something very critical that I have to attend to right away, because I've been noticing it for about close to 2 months and nothing seems to upset the car? Im going on a trip for about a month so Ill look into it when I get back.

Nah, if it is indeed just a leak, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's one of those things that isn't "critical" but it will need some attention sooner or later.

At least in my opinion.

i didn't think of that...its common on the 2k-2k3s at the section coupling. it rusts completly and then you need to replace the whole rear section...i opted for the ss option from obx when it happened on my 2k...there is a similar option avail on ebay now. i am pleased with mine, but it is a bit droany at times. but as for durability...a+!
