Using bald tires to race
Using bald tires to race
Me and my grandfather was talking about this at the track sunday. My tires are dead now and I'm about to get new ones. I wanted to know if it was a good idea to keep two of my old tires for racing since they almost look like slicks. Would it help me any or just slow me down. Also is it dangerous in any way. If I did this I most likely get two new rims for the new tires. Hopefully this isnt a dumb question.
Yes totally safe. I'm sure the tracks don't have any requirments for tread depth. Why would they? Race cars go anywhere from 80-160. If your tire blew out could you control your car?

Agreed with all the other posts except...you could treat em with a tire softener like FormulaV or TrackClaw. That would bring back some of the stickiness for track days.
Assuming they're nowhere near corded of couse.

i use my old tires for the track, but the still have enough tread to be worth it since i dont have the money for slicks or DR's. if they have a little tread then its better than using new tires and a bigger rim. but if there really is no tread then you really have to get rid of them.
