Updated 1/4 mile times after 3.5 swap

Well, I am a little disappointed. They track was very crowded, weather was not ideal, I only got 3 runs, etc. Before when I had the 3.0, I got larger tires 225/55-16 instead of 225/50-16 that I normally run. I did that so I could ride out 3rd gear instead of shifting to 4th right before the line. Well now with the 3.5, I am shifting like 20 yards before the line, and it is hurting me again.

First pass:

60ft: 2.295
330: 6.052
1/8: 9.001
mph: 83.87
1/4: 13.638
mph: 105.75

That was a new best time and mph, but the launch was terrible so I knew it would get better.

Second pass:

60ft: 2.139
330: 5.835
1/8: 8.774
mph: 84.34
1/4: 13.405
mph: 105.89

Better yet, but I still wasn't thrilled. The trap ought to be higher, shifting to 4th is killing me.

Third pass:

60ft: 2.070
330: 5.715
1/8: 8.628
mph: 85.00
1/4: 13.254
mph: 103.38

AAAAAAAAHHHH! Best 60 ft I have ever pulled in my life, best 1/8th ever, and I MISSED 4TH GEAR!! I was so upset. The track closed after that, no more runs.

If you divide out the 1/4 mile by the 1/8th mile for the first two runs to get the multiplier, it shows that this pass could have been as good as a 13.07 if I hadn't missed 4th gear.

These runs were all on street tires. Actually the cheapest street tires I could find at the time, hankook k106, and they are pretty heavy. I will run 12's on street tires, but it may be Fall depending on the weather, because it has already gotten hot here. (87 degrees yesterday)

Warren (veetec) was there with his 350z, he had some drag radials I was going to try, but it was too crowded and late to worry about swapping, and we weren't sure they would fit. (255/50-16 on mazda rx7 wheels)

Oh well, next time maybe.

Wow! Nice times. What track is this? I'm in Atlanta and I'm always looking for tracks in the area. I'd love to see your ride in action.

BTW, how do you like Chattanooga? My wfe and I really like that town and area.

looks like you'll be the first one into the 12s with a 4.5gen with street tires even. Congrat on those times

edit. Do you have any weight reduction done on your car or know how much it weighs?

The track re-opened, and ran until 2:20 am!

Whatever was causing my car to KR got a little better, but never went away, so I only ran 13.333, and my trap went up to 104+. I bogged on that pass too.

It improved a little more after I ran the gas out and put in some BP 93 on the way home, but it still doesn't feel right. Everything was fine until I got gas at the old Chevron in Gadsden, so I hope it's just something in the gas that will work itself out. If not I may have to shop it.

Congrats on your new best! I am going to look into track rental, but will probably wait until it starts to cool off a little in the Fall.

Excellent times as we all expected. Sucks about the shift into 4th, maybe time to rethink the tire size yet again. That 60' time is insane for regular street tires in a maxima.

This was at Steele, AL. You will have to come sometime. I didn't realize that you had already moved to ATL...what part? We will definately have to meet up sometime. We love Chattanooga, it is a pretty good sized city with alot of things to do and it is spread out, but it still has that small town charm.

I have no idea really what it weighs, it is pretty light. I have the basic weight removal, spare, jack, light battery, I had the passenger seat out, but I also weigh 240 lbs so I am not sure.

congrats man. great times. you can always have jwt retune your ecu for the 7200rpm rev limit. maybe that will kill the need to shift into 4th. when i had my jwt with the 7200 it would top out about 108 in 3rd at rev limit. According to my speedo anyway.

man thats moving ! yeah those old hancooks are freaking heavy, i bought some when i was in a bind and couldnt believe how heavy they were:

Hankook K106 : 27 lbs. in 225/50/16

96 is it to late to ask you about your engine swap, i havent been keeping up with things on the org lately. just wondering what setup you went with and what other stuff you did. a pm is fine if you have the time !

13.2 with a mishift, sure sounds like you could be in the 12's !

Nice times and 60 ft! Extra torque of the VQ35 must be helping there.

12's should be only a couple of adjustments away.

Man, I'd love to see what our Sentra would do with the power that you're making! Here's our time slip with VQ35 swap, CAI, Stone Racing headers, and 2.5" exhaust-

60ft- 1.851 (22x8 slicks)
330ft- 5.327
1/8- 8.258 @ 83.98mph
1000ft- 10.783
1/4- 12.948 @ 103.98mph

What transmission are you running? I think my top end is getting killed because I'm on 22" tall slicks.. I'm shifting into 5th gear about 100ft before the lights.. I think if I had a 24.5" tall slick, I could pull through in 4th gear.. and net much better 1000ft and 1/4 ET's. This is on a 6spd..

I have the 5spd, the gearing is very similar to the 6spd. I only had 3 runs, the times will get better. I will run a 12.9 on street tires eventually. With a 1.85 60 ft time on slicks, I think my car would run a 12.6 easily. The sentra isn't really that much lighter than my car I would imagine.

By far and away the quickest N/A max on street tires.

I bet swapping in a more aggressive final drive ratio to fully use 4th gear would put you in the 12's on street tires... or very close to it.

Really good times and nice driving. Those 60' your pulling are very impressive for street tires. A 2.073 is about the best I was able to pull on my ET streets.

Missing 4th that close to the line really won't hurt your ET that much, maybe .05. It will hurt your trap though, which is evident.

I honestly don't think a 12 sec pass on street tires is going to be that easy the way the car is set up now. Your gonna need to pull another 2.0X 60' and have some real cool weather.

Keep it comming!
