Car idles at 900 RPM???
Car idles at 900 RPM???
Hey guys!
i posted here before that my car idles to high. then i was advised to clean TB, check TPS and IACV. did it all, even put new TB with TPS.
and here is what happens: as it says in a manual when u adjust idle u have to dissconect TPS, then adjust screw on iacv and connect back TPS. when i disconnect TPS i adjust screw and car idles perfectly at 650 and then when i connect back TPS it jumps back to 900.....
anybody had problem like this?

sounds like a faulty TPS. check resistence on it from fully closed to fully open, it should rise steady, with no sharp jumps. google or even the faqs will tell you the resistence it should be at idle, and WOT
www.autozone.com has basic instructions on how to adjust the idle, and suggested idle speed. Look under

I have a similar problem, my idle jumps when using the climate control which is expect but when I turn it off, the idle remains almost 850. It should go back to its normal idle range of 600 to 700, but it doesnt. Any one know?

If that doesn't work....check to make sure you don't have a tight throttle cable, and that you haven't mistakenly screwed in the metal TB stop screw to adjust the idle speed.
i did it man, exactly as u described, dissconnected tps adjusted to 650, shut engine off connected back tps start the car and again 900rpm.... also can't be tps because i replaced it with TB from different max, also checked resisstance and everything seems fine....
what is DTC can i reset it (btw im auto)
checked cables, both look ok

If you have an automatic, reset the DTC per factory manual instructions.

Also....I did mean the DTC computer which is for the auto. It's a fairly long, but easy procedure that's in the factory manual. Takes about a minute or two to run thru it. It clears the codes caused by you disconnecting the TPS. The procedure might be on a sticky or old thread.
BTW...I checked my idle and it runs about 750 to 800 with the climate control on. I think the computer adjusts it for driveability sake...in other words..that's normal.
