(MO'MAX ) defrost/hazard light question

I read that you were able to fix the lights in your hazard and my rear defroster switches.

I can get the center console out but how can I get to the lights behind the buttons? Thanks

Yes I was. The bulbs I used to replace the bad ones are the radio shack bulbs that I got from CFC back around 12/4/00. I think amixam69 gets the credit for finding the bulbs.

p/n 72119
Box number 272-1092c
about $1.50 for a box of 2
they are called 12V mini lamps

The tough part is getting the switches apart. It took persistance and involved using a screw driver to push the switch out throught its front holder if I remember correctly. It was 6 months ago. I remember lots of grease and springs. It's a pain in the a-- but you'll feel really great once you conquer it and see the results that nite.

Like I said it was a long time ago but I'll try my best to help. First thing is to remove the switch from the dash completely. Second thing is to disassemble the switch. That's the tough part. I think the trick was that I had to kock the switch body to one side to unclip it from the front housing. What I mean is that when you view the switch from behind, you will see that there is a clip molded into the body that keeps the front piece and switch body together. Notice that it is only on one side. I think I used a small screwdriver to unclip it (relatively easy) but could never get it to come off the rest of the way. It will kock to one side but seem to get jammed. At some point I just tried forcing the switch body in that direction and it just fell apart in my lap. It feels like you're gonna break it, but it works. There are springs involved and lots of grease, so keep an eye out for flying parts. I think I worked with a towel in my lap to catch runaway pieces. I can't remember too much detail about the internals other than that you have to remove the bulb off of a rubber base. Before you do that, take note of the way that the leads are wound thru the rubber base, and how they come to make contact with the 2 power source prongs. When I replaced the bad ones with the radio shack ones I took advantage of the extra long leads of the RS bulbs to wind an extra turn or 2 to ensure a good contact point. I was bummed when I saw the design. It's really cheesy and not robust.

If I'm not making sense, let me know, maybe I'll have to take mine apart again to help you.

Let me know how you do.

btw sorry for the misspelling of kock...the site is supressing the word if I spell it correctly.
