Car is for sale. I am asking $3000 for the 95 Max SE 5 speed stick. Resale value is around $2800 good condition. A lot of people don't like the high mileage on the car at 270,000. I have been the only owner and have replaced a lot of parts on the car. Why won't the car sell? I guess I will lower the price next week if I don't get any good offers. Also to mention I noticed mostly young chicks have inquired about the car. Is this a woman's car? I thought the fellas would inquire the most, but they haven't. A lot of people are turned off from the fact the car is a 5 speed stick and high miles. What are you guys comments?

 

People don't like high mileage cars. Also resale for manuals is low.

 

well if asking price is 2800 and u want 3000? i havent ever really known anyone that pays blue book for a car. and i have seen a number of maximas with 150,000 miles for less then you want. i think u will get 2k for it if that but that is just my opinion.

 

Lower your price to at least 2.5k if you're serious about selling it, 270k is a CRAPLOAD of miles. The Maxima is known to most as a grocery getter, which is why the ladies like it (although probably not since it's a stick), but that just makes it even funner to wipe the smile right off of unsuspecting people's faces.

 

I'll give you $1500 for it... CASH! if you ever decided you really need to sell it...

I wouldn't say it always is. Alot of it has to do with what area of the country you live in. Out here, close to chicago, you can't give away a 5spd. Just too much stop and go traffic.

 

makes sense that 5-spds are shunned upon in big cities where traffic is stop n' go, but I was driving a manual corolla before i got the max, it took me some time to get used to not braking with both feet and trying to shift gears but i'd say Manual cars makes the driving experience more worthwhile, if I don't change my car i'll probably swap it for a manual tranny soon.

 

I would put her back to stock, and sell. You should be able to pull ~2.5K on ebay.

well, that is too high of a price IMO.

i bought my 96 se 5sp w/ 188k on the clock for 2400.
so think about it. one year newer, w/ 100k less miles. for 600 less.

u probably can sell for 2k flat.

 

A 1995 with 270K is worth about 500-1000 considering it will need a motor pretty soon and possible trans. Unless you have documented engine and trans swap than its worth about 1000-1500. 2800 is way too high it will never sell at that price. I can get 95s with half the mileage for 1500 all day around here.

 

Why will it need a new motor and trans? You are always telling people their cars aren't worth anything. Obviously you have a right to your opinion but he will end up getting 2K for it if he waits.

 

I actually bought my 2nd 95 5spd max off ebay for $885 with 204k.. it needed a trans. which I had so it was good for me.

 

Didn't SE's come with leather?

I paid my 1996 SE 5spd for $8000cdn last year, however, that's because the car is mint and only had 80 000km on it.

The high mileage is probably your big problem. When I was selling another vehicle of mine, it had 175K and that scared lots of people away. just for reference, i got my 96 gxe, 98k miles, auto for $4000

 

I've been following Maximas in Oregon for 2 years now and its rare to find a Maxima in good condition that isnt at least +200 Blue Book.

I sold my 95 Auto with 150k for 5500...

 

O no, owning a 5spd isn't bad at all..But some/majority of people dont know how to drive stick...

You'd be surprised what people will buy. Last week some guy came up to me on 34th street (I was sitting in my car waiting to pick up a friend) and said he was interested in my car. After I told him that it had 226,000 miles and that the rear-end collision damage was valued at $4,000, he was still interested enough to offer me $1300. If the body of your car isn't as bad as mine (it's probably much better) you can definetly get $2500 for the car. Just gotta find the right place (try the city).

If it was well maintained, I'm sure she's got more to go than just 270,000 miles.

 

That does seem a little steep, I just bought a 98 Maxima with 103k for $4500 from the stealership.

 

Perhaps it would help to list all the things you have replaced on the car to give potential buyer the confidence that they are not buying a car that will fall apart on them in a month. Still a car with those many miles are potential money pits. I personally would not sell my car once it reaches the 200k mark. It's not really worth selling that car anymore unless you did an engine/tranny swap.

 

i got my 1998 gxe with 116k miles on it for about 2500. it needed two new axles and a few new belts.

 

hmmm.. didn't know people were paying these prices for 4th gens.
Last year I picked up a black 97 GLE auto fully loaded with 140k miles for less than $3200 Canadian / $2800 USD. The car was mint, already lowered with eibach/gr2 and only needed a new muffler and tires.

Love these cars but I wouldn't fork out anything more than $1500 for a car floating above 200k miles unless every single part has been replaced.

 

I am just saying with 270K if it has the orginal motor and trans most people will not buy it because it is a gamble if it will last much longer. $2800 is way too high for a 95 with 270K on it. Where I live I can get a 95 with 140K less miles for 1500-2000 all day everyday. Just where you live sometimes, the northeast is flooded with maximas and they are dirt cheap. I am just going by what they sell for around here, too many maximas and not enough interest in older ones. Oh, and look in the for sale forum I told Mike his 96I30 is well worth the 9K asking price and it is, so obviously I don't tell people their cars aren't worth anything unless they are.

 

Well, I have actually put a lot of money into the car over the years. Transmission replaced '03, CV joints replaced 2 years ago. New brakes and calipers (rear), New struts and shocks, car is on it's 4th clutch '02, radiator '03. Car is regularly tuned up and hoses changed, oil change every 3000 miles. I've been told to change the belts which I had changed at 50,000 miles but not since. Also had rear engine seal replaced '02 which stopped the oil leak I had. I have replaced some small parts here and there like Knock sensor, starter, fuel filter and what-not's. I drive this car everywhere and long road trips and am basically tired of it now. I want another car but I have to sell this one first. Taking the advice from the forum, I will lower the price substantially and see what offers I get then. It's been for sell now about 6 weeks and I just thought since Kelly Blue Book says the car is worth that much, that I would get that much. How wrong I am. Also guys if were to keep the car with this many miles, do you know what I can do to it to keep it running well as it has? I do most of my own work on it, nothing major though.

 

It is just hard to sell it with that many miles most people won't even consider a car with that mileage. It sounds like it has been maintained so mention that in your ad and list repairs done it helps. I always have good luck with local newspaper ads, usually within first couple days, and it is cheap.

 

MAXIMAS are EVERYWHERE there isn't a day that goes by that I can't spot at least 5 other Maximas...

I say keep it till it dies. It's not worth selling IMO. Since most of the 4th gens will be entering the 10+ year old category their should be a lot more spare parts you can find at your local scrap yard. Not to mention you have a pretty large forum here to assist you in keeping your car alive. What could you do with $2k in the car world today anyway?

The tail lights might be a turn off and the chrome around the wheels looks odd to me.

 

Rear end looks really low, I know it is on a slanted driveway, but it looks a too low like the struts are going or already are.

 

Noticed that too, and also noticed the bling fender pieces and altezzas. IMO, you might be scaring away some potential buyers with that flash. IDK, but also, 3k for almost 300k miles? That's really steep. Good luck with the sale, how long was it for sale? (I'll reread the first post if it was said there.)

 

The rear end drop was actually 16 bags of roofing shingles I loaded in the trunk and back seat. (You can't tell they were even there now). Yeah, I know my car has the bling bling look but here down south in my town, that look is loved by lots and I get loads of comments on it. The asking price is now $2950. Every week I will lower the price by a hundred dollars. So next week it will be $2850 and so on until it sells.

 

People looking at cars with 270,000 miles the odo are looking for bargins. They don't care (mostly) that you changed the oil every 3000 miles or not, and changing an o2 sensor because the CEL was on means nothing to them.

Don't go by the fact that people on this site love 5 speeds. The general poplulation does not. Even if parts of your town like the bling look you are limiting yourself to only those customers with that look. That is not bad in whole but it can work to your advantage only if you get lucky with the right customer on the right day, when he is willing to pay too much.

Face it cars with over 200,000 miles are not what the suburbian families are buying for thier kids to drive to school in. Cars with over 200,000 are bought by folks that can't afford much more.

My 95 with 125,000 and an auto, and raxles, and new shocks etc. etc. would not bring 3000 in my area, and it was adult owned by me since new, (which does help, considering I am 53).

Now all that being said, you could drop the price a 100 and it just might sell. If you got the time to keep it on the market and only want a new different car, but dont need one, then time could be in your favor.

I have a buddy who has been trying to sell a 3/4 ton PUfor nore than a year. He would not budge off blue book or NADA price, and he is stil sitting on it. Clean as a whistle, low miles, and we are in PU country, yet is is still for sale. Had he dropped the price 1000 at the start he would have been money ahead.

As much as we love Maximas, any Max with 270,000 miles is looked at by the general poplulation as cheap wheels. $3000.00 is not yet cheap enough.
