Had my car aligned yesterday after replacing the struts and the place told me that on one side in the front that camber was a little out of spec. The guy said it wasn't adjustable. I was thinking camber was adjustable on 3rd gens? I'm almost positive that the new struts I put on were slotted on one of the mounting holes. What's the deal here?

 

the camber isn't adjustable from the factory. there are after market "camber bolts" that you put in the bottom of the strut where it bolts onto the knuckle.
these camber bolts have an oval shape that will allow you to adjust the camber by turning them. you should be able to get them at most auto stores.
but before you run out and get them, check the bushings in your LCA. if the bushing is worn, the camber will be off.

 

Thanks Dennis. That makes me feel better about the shop. I bet you're right, it likely is the LCA bushings. Lot of the stuff on this car isn't in the best shape. Should have seen how rusty the tie rods were. Looked like the nut that snugs against the outer tie rod end was fused together with it. Had to get my big wrenches and some heat out to do a little "persuading."

 

if one of the bolt holes on the struts is slotted, then that's all you need to adjust camber on the car.

what springs are you running on the car? the lower you go, the more negative your camber will be, but with something like eibachs, you should be fine.

and how far out of spec is the camber, anyway? if you're between about -1.5 and 0, then you should be fine. for my car that sees track use, I run it at about -2.5 and don't have major issues with tire wear.

and as far as eibachs, i thought i would be fine but my camber was off when i took the car to get aligned. its far enough off to tell just by looking. and my lcas are both new on the front. just my .02 about eibachs, wish i had known before the $75 for the alignment

 

It was only like -1.1, but I think the other side was about -.5. Using stock springs.

 

Oh so when you drop the car, it requires a custom adjustment?

 

Depends on how much drop. Generally the more the drop the more the negative camber you will get. Mine just has a tad much neg. camber due to possibly worn bushings on the control arm.
