ok I'm technically a newbie because I don't post too often, but I've been reading posts almost every day for the past 9 months. anyway, I've checked the sticky's and the only thing I found is that I should put a towel around the shiftboot and twist. but I don't see how that would work... wouldn't just the **** come off? I've tried putting a towel around that and twisting with a wrench, but nothing seems to work. thanks a lot for the help.

i took my shift **** off by hand. its really tight the first time you take it off. get a good firm grip on the **** and turn it counter clockwise and it should come right off.

Good luck.

I tried with all my might to no avail. Eventually, I just got sick of it and sawed the b!tch off. That worked out well.

It's hot glued - you have to break the glue. I used a strap wrench, a paper towel and smacked the wrench with the heel of my hand.

Yeah, there's NO WAY you're going to get that sucker off by and. That thing is glued on TIGHT! I heard a lot of people talking about a strap wrench. You might wanna try that. Although, it's a lot of fun to saw that ba$tard off after you get upset because you can't take it off by hand. REDEMPTION!

Finally got the shift **** off

Shortly after bidding on an AE 5sp shift **** on Ebay, I decided to give another try at getting the original **** off. I have tried before, but figured since my car was sitting in 95 degree heat for a few hours, it might be easier. I just used a very firmgrip and twisted as hard as possible. It came off on the first try...WooHoo! Hopefully I'll get the AE **** for $30.

Good deal. You're lucky. The AE **** is a lot better. Looks much nicer
