Recently my car started to shake like a diessel. It shakes at idle and even after I'm driving. I've lost some power also. The steering wheel is moving and so is the passenger seat. I'm not sure why. I think my battery might have something to do with it because for some reason I can't tighten the ring around the battery terminal so sometimes it pops up and I can't turn the car on until I push it back down. Everything in my car resets when this happens. Does anyone know what this might be? my car is shaking really bad and it will irritate me until I fix it. I've only got 124,400 miles on it VG don't really push it.

 

I'm gonna guess injector failure.
but it sounds like you lost multiple at one shot which is weird.

 

Check spark plug cables.

 

all that with no check engine light? either the obd is worthless on our cars or the battery terminal getting disconnected keeps erasing the codes.

So do I need to replace the spark plugs or just the cables? Cause I actually replaced them last year because i failed the state emissions tests and so they are only a year old.

I am having a similar problem, my car shakes unbearably right when I start it up or like a couple of minutes later. It seems my acceleration has trouble picking up also. Could it still be a spark plug problem? or my transmission is messed up?
Anyone know?

Is it just when the car is idleing, or is it when you drive?

Im sure you can just buy some aftermarket batteryclamps that will hold its place.

 

Mine had the same issue right around the time gas switched to mandatory ethanol...right about a 1/4 of a tank the car would start violently shaking / loss of acceleration, chugging sound @ idle. I used a few things of techron, and changed my plugs (close enough to the 60K mark to do it) and haven't had the trouble since, can't really say what caused it though.

 

I would replace the plugs/distributor cap/rotor...

 

i had that "well almost" same problem a while back. I popped in some injectors from the auto yard and it solved it. Although my car didnt shake as much as you say.

I think it is the spark plugs does anyone know if I can drive around on just 5 sparkplugs? I have work tom. and need to know if this car will be reliable or not with only 5 sparkplugs working I will leave the 6th sparkplug wire unplugged. Or is that not going to work and I should find a ride?

 

The plugs when I pulled them out had kind of grey white coat on them and two of them seemed to be covered in oil and the others were not. Also what is our gap setting?

 

The gap is .39-.44...NGK plugs come pre gapped at .44..I would recheck the gap on each of them before installation...The parts store or someone else may have dropped the box and meesed up the pregap...

 

Put the wire back on the plug...Drive it....Fix it soon though..

 

Alright I replaced the plugs and the spark plug wires. I still have shaking but not as bad. I was talking to my friend and he said to check the vaccum seal on the hoses. I found this thing was loose. The hose connecting to the engine by the grommet kinda in the middle.

 

That could be my problem also. How much does changing the spark plugs and the wires?

 

Spark Plugs are cheap if you go with the OEM replacements (just regular copper NGKs for VG, Plats for the VE), they shouldn't run you more than $20, the wires I've seen start around $40 for a set and go up to over $100...just depends on what you want. Injectors can cause a cylinder miss. If your plugs or wires are only a year old they are probably ok unless you cracked an insulator because you didn't use the right socket putting them in.

 

This started happening to me just a few days ago.

At first, the shaking began when I restarted the car after the engine was already warm. If I started it cold it was fine, and didn’t get worse while driving until I restarted. Today however, it did it when cold. It seemed like the shaking was being caused from only running 5 cylinders.

I decided that its either the spark plugs or or the coils, just finished taking them all out. One of the front plugs looks crappy, the rear 3 are all soaked in oil. Coils are all good though. I decided to replace them all because they are at 41K right now anyway, so doing that tomorrow... and hopefully changing the rear oil seal really soon.

Hopefully new spark plugs will fix the issue, I'd hate to think I have to get new injectors.

 

that front plug is probably the cylinder with the problem.
but I'd fix the oil leak at the rear plugs while you're in there

 

did you change your cap and rotor??? im thinking that your timing is messed up too......

 

I just installed the new spark plugs, seems to be running really well so far. I'll have a more extended drive around town later today though.

Following the advice of this post: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=417117, I went for the NGK V-Power BKR5E-11. The guy entered "BRK5E11" into his computer and gave me plugs made by Denso called U-Groove. They looked right and said "Made in Japan" on them. http://www.densoaftermarket.com/

 

Its acting up again, not as bad though... I guess the injectors are the primary suspects?

Ive read in a lot of posts that people are getting used injectors. Seems strange that they would do that if they are problem parts, but I can understand considering how much new ones cost. Do they all have to be replaced at the same time, or is it just a matter of finding the bad one?
